1984 PK restore

OK, here's a transformation story..

I bought this frame from a guy in New Zealand off ebay late last year..

As soon as I got it over the Tasman, it was boxed up and sent over to my man Tim, the frame doctor in Illinois.
His skill is down right second to NONE! The seat mast was replaced and some small areas touched up.
Needless to say, he absolutely nailed it!

Next, it was over to Kelly at Custom Metal for a ball burnishing just as he was doing 30 years ago for SE -  www.1800deburring.com

A few more adds and tweaks and she'll be done!! STOKED!!

Re: 1984 PK restore

Wow! The frame doc really worked his magic.  Nice work on the frame and what you did to the bike.  What a great restoration job!!!  Awesome P.K. Ripper!!!  Looks like you took a cruise with Marty in the Delorean and brought the P.K. Ripper back with you.

Re: 1984 PK restore

Holly B-Jesus...... Fraking awesum!

Do you ride it much? how are the welds holding up?

I want to restore one, but I'm afraid It will just brake on me like mine did when I was a teenager.
I may have gotten a bad bike, but man it didn't take much to break in half.

Awesome job. The framedoc made it happen. How much was it to ball burnish the frame and fork?

Re: 1984 PK restore

I had absolute faith in Tim as he is a true professional and an amazing talent. He has helped me out a few times now and is a cool guy to work with. His work is top notch, second to none.
Clocked up some serious miles on this frame, all based on the ability of two exceptional craftsmen, Tim and Kelly cool The guys at Custom Metal were seriously cool and if your frame is in the hands of Mr Alvarez you can rest assured it's in the right place seeing as they were contracted by SE back in the day big_smile

Re: 1984 PK restore

Great job!!!  That came out awesome!  Did you find Kelly because of the thread I posted a few months ago with my ball burnished PK?  I think Kelly owes me some kickback cuz I know he's gotten a lot of business from that thread tongue
I was pumped to have stumbled across him, he's a great easy going guy to deal with and it was cheaper to have it re-ball burnished than a cheap powder or paint job would cost!!

I hope you have a big trunk.....because I'm puttin' my bike in it!   -Andy Stitzer
Remember....if everyone came to a bike show without a bike, it would just be a bunch of dudes standing around in a park...and that's just creepy!  If you've got one, bring one.  -Me

Yes, I believe it was your thread and I thank you big_smile Cost may have risen slightly but it would have been the same to get it powdered I believe..
I've got plans to find an '08 LIL Ripper for my boy now to kick alongside his pappa, so who knows, if I can't land the '08, I might head on back to Kelly again.

Re: 1984 PK restore

I have used Tim on 4 of my builds and he is it.  I live relatively close by and am fortunate to have him around for advice.  Total professional and I advise anyone who needs work done  to talk to him.  He can tackle any job.  I am a Sting hoarder but PK's are my next love - great job on the bike!
