Painting or powder coating Pro Class III rims
Hello everyone. I was wondering and think I read a while back about someone powdercoating Proclass III rims with a color that matched the original color pretty good. Has anyone done this? How did they turn out? What was the name or code of the color? Any insight would be great. Thanks.

Sometimes, for what it can cost for powdercoating, one could get the rims re-anodized.

Re: Painting or powder coating Pro Class III rims
Might have been my post... Chip @ C4 Labs did a set for me by matching the original finish that was left on them... Cost was $50 or $60 if I remember correctly. I thought they turned out great!

Re: Painting or powder coating Pro Class III rims
The only adverse effect to powder coating or painting rims is if it is too think and makes the holes too small fo the nipples and spokes.
The downside is if you are going to ride on the rims the brake pads will rub the paint of quickly; powder coating lasts longer, but will still rub off eventually.

Re: Painting or powder coating Pro Class III rims
I had a set of pro class powdered semi black and love how they look. I would think the powder would have to be extremely thick to have problems with the spokes/nipples. The guy that built mine had no problems. A local guy that does powder coating on the side did mine for $40 and I had them laced at the bike shop.
If you ride a lot I guess the powder would eventually wear off but that is nothing new. I would think that Powder/paint wears off new school rims eventually and the anno always would wear off of old school rims.

Re: Painting or powder coating Pro Class III rims
Tommy I cant wait to see them. I just bought a set of PC III's that need to be refinished. Erichevy's matched the OG pretty nicely in my opinion and thats what I want to accomplish on my set, but they all turned out very nice from the pics.

Re: Painting or powder coating Pro Class III rims
My brother has a powder gun from Harbor Freight. We bought a used house hold oven awhile back. The powder was purchased at powder buy the pound. We powder any bmx parts we need now.
70 dollar gun, 25 dollar oven, 15 dollars for a pound of powder = priceless

The only thing you need to do is heat tape threads, before coating anything. or you'll have to dig the powder out. ![]()

Re: Painting or powder coating Pro Class III rims
OK guys I found a place locally that can do these PCIII back to the reannoed original finish. He has a new patented hard annodizing process that is very similar to the proclass III rims. I dont know all the spec details though. I showed him my rims , told him I would like the identical finish if possible and he said he could do it. He said he has a tub of black right now ready to go. The product is picking up in popularity so he will be keeping the tubs up and running. He is current expanding to do so. The difference he said is the thickness of the anno but the wear resistance of this new pantented product is as good or better proven through salt water test, i think?. Another cool feature is the color choice is open to other colors though and not just the Hard anno black. The rims are 85.00 if you remove the anno or 100.00 if they do it. He did say that using sodium hydroxide will take if off but the color will go first, the clear anno may remain and you can only make sure its all off for proper reanno with a conduction tester. So for another 15.00 I said he can remove the old anno for me.
PS if you Ashtabula parts that need refinishing in the OG finish you should read this thread.
