NOS

If a part has been mounted it is no longer NOS.  In any other type of restoration, motorcycle/auto, if a part is used it's USED.  Why does this go on in BMX restoration?

Re: NOS

Good point. Mostly a debate when a part is for sale. Most of the time when an item is being sold "nos" if it
has been put on a bike but not rode it should be called nos Before show mount. If the nos part was installed and the bike was rode then in my opinion it would have to be described as excellent condition but used. This interpretation is my opinion only but I think it is fair

Re: NOS

Must agree. NOS is never mounted or used. Preverbly still in original packaging if possible.
Show mounted but not ridden must be sold with that description.
That is why I believe the for sale description must be as detailed as possible describing the condition of the item and maybe how it was obtained.
Hate it when someone sells an item with only one sentence describing the item vaguely.

Re: NOS

Thanks, after looking at some ads, I was thought it may be an excepted practice by the majority.  I guess it really is since there are so many ads that throw NOS and survivor around on repainted and mounted parts.  Maybe they are all drinking the same Minty Fresh Kool-Aid.  I have started buying stuff online to finish my projects, and it's really annoying reading some of these descriptions. I guess that I should stick to garage sales and trading with friends.

Re: NOS

I posted it to get my post number up high so i can be an ass too.  My question was answered I'm done with it.  If people would quit posting on it needlessly, it would go away.  I guess that if I want a question answered in the future I will just call R&M. Thank you, good day.

Re: NOS

so what does NOS mean exactly because I'm going to be selling some parts soon.  I actually have a NOS stem that I gently slipped in the head tube of a bike that had a headset installed on just to see what it would look like.  Is it still NOS?  Can I still sell it as NOS or would it be classified as "GUNOS" now? Re: NOS

I have some random NOS parts, but they have been sitting been sitting in outside in the rain, sun, snow etc. since 1986. They are worn and severely rusted but have never been on a bike. They still have the original tags from the shop attached...

I can agree with you...what's the big deal if a question is asked again?  Remember, everyone was a newbie at one time.

Also, I probably would never have searched on NOS because I didn't have any questions about it; however, since you asked this question I read the thread and learned something.  So, asking a question that apparently has been asked many times in the past doesn't bother me.

Anyone that wants to turn this into an argument can send you replies to /dev/null.
