why would you have to worry about the cranks dragging? What adapters would be available to move the post? I thought about having my 22" wheels built and put on my Model C but never got around to it.

I just messed around with putting the 22" wheels on my 24" Dirtbike and was less-than-thrilled with the handling. Of course, I was reluctant to go all out on it b/c of my issues with the Meghanacrap tires and the lack of a functioning brake. What kind of brake adapters or modification are you talking about?

If you were running smaller wheels on a normal 24 the bottom bracket might be too low.

maybe something like mentioned here for the brake adapters.

I've seen them on here before but can't happen to find a bike right now that has one.

Laced the rims up with Shadow hubs.
Will have chrome Shadow half link.

Think I will change out the chrome profiles for black no boss with a Tree sprocket.

Thanks to the members who helped with the tires and rims.

Wow that looks amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Cullen,

Are all of those custom frames for you and the Texas boys, or are some of those going to be available to the general public?

I'm still waiting to hear from S&M regarding the tires.

Re: A question about 22" bikes

Faction Bikes responded to a Facebook inquiry by stating that their new website will be up in a few days and that the new frame-sets, wheels, and tires will be available in June. I know we've been given release dates for this stuff in the past--and those dates have come and gone--but there is some industry buzz that this will, indeed, happen within this time frame.

Good news for all of us who are in the 22" game and great news for Faction!

Here you go. The We The People Avenger 24" has the same geo as the 1st generation Sunday Model C (the size small 21.25"tt).  I just got my S&M 22" fork in the mail, and I'm still waiting on my custom frame from InDust (fabricated by STOUT). So I decided to try the fork on the WTP to see what dropping the fork height by an inch (roughly) would do.  Other than the rear brakes not lining up, this looks highly rideable.  Of course you're still not getting the advantages of a short chainstay actually designed around a 22" wheel like with the Amero and other 22" specific frames. The head angle seems to affected less than I though it would and the bottom bracket is dropped to a pretty normal looking height.

S&M 22" fork.  Front Velocity/Taipan custom-batch rim and Eclat hub. Rear Faction Zeitgeist 22" wheel.

That WTP looks really promising in 22 mode!
Any info on the new bb height?

Re: A question about 22" bikes

I have another member from the museum that just completed doing some fabrication work on a midschool Holmes frame in order to run a 22" wheel on it. I'll have the bike together--with the custom 22" Pitchforks that I just got--by the end of next week and post some pics. The brake bridge was moved to allow some extra clearance and to run side-pull brakes.

it looks like you could potentially have enough room in that rear dropout to get a 22" wheel in. no?  i did it with an old HB Taj.

Rad. Definitely worth moving the brake bridge to get some more room. Can't wait to see that !

I measured it at 12 3/8" from the ground up to center of bb (give or take a few mm, i did not find exact center).  It really does seem like it's in the ideal range of height from looking at it.   Right in between the S&M prototype 22" at 12.25"bb and the Faction Amero at 12.5".  I will put cranks on it and ride it and report back.  Of course tire height and axle-to-crown on the fork will play into it.  The S&M fork that I got has a half inch of vertical clearance between top of tire and bottom of crown.

Re: A question about 22" bikes

I got the fabricated frame today, as well as some new Kenda 22" tires. I'll be building it tomorrow and supplying pics, as well. Thanks to fellow museum member Erikv for doing the modification. The Kenda tire is 1.75" wide and allows for extra chainstay clearance. With the narrower tire and the re-positioning of the brake bridge, it looks like this will work fine with some side-pull brakes.

Re: A question about 22" bikes

Here are some crude pics of the fab work done to the Holmes frame:

http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz171/teachbmxcharlie/DSC00081-2.jpg
Brake bracket was moved up from its original position about 3/4".

http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz171/teachbmxcharlie/DSC00080-2.jpg
Chainstay bracket/brace (proper name=???) was moved about 1/2" closer to the bottom bracket. The black lines show its original position.

http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz171/teachbmxcharlie/DSC00079-1.jpg
990 mounts needed to be removed for chain clearance.

http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz171/teachbmxcharlie/DSC00083-2.jpg
http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz171/teachbmxcharlie/DSC00082-2.jpg
Original mounting position of the brake bracket is shown by the scuffed-looking chrome just under the bracket in its new position.

I'm just waiting for an American BB for a 19mm spindle to complete this build. Another local member is supplying me with it tomorrow. I'll complete the build and test ride shortly thereafter.

Re: A question about 22" bikes

Here are the pics of the completed Holmes with the fabrications to allow 22" wheels (Despite the Dirtbike stickers, the frame is actually a Holmes).

On its own.

With my 24" Dirtbike for comparative purposes.

http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz171/teachbmxcharlie/DSC00081-3.jpg

http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz171/teachbmxcharlie/DSC00084-2.jpg
Additional pics to show the modifications with the wheels on the bike. As you can see, there is plenty of room to move the wheel back in the dropout and to have adjustment with the brake pads on the calipers. Any suggestions for side-pull/caliper brakes? These are $7 no-name for temp purposes.

The bb height is close to that of my 24" Dirtbike, b/c the custom 22" forks on the 20" frame raise the front-end and bb height slightly. The height measures between 12 and 3/4" and 13" even, making the bb height a little taller than desirable--but OK for a quick custom.

I rode for about 15 minutes on the backyard box and quarter pipe before the rain set in. I'll bring it to the trails tomorrow for a more thorough report on how it handles.

Re: A question about 22" bikes

OK, so the rain came and went and the trails are bone-dry. I got about 45 minutes in on the bike and I was easily clearing some things that I sometimes have trouble with on my 20". This is one aspect of a 22" that appeals to me and other older riders. The bike handles like a 20", but has the top-end speed and launch capability of a cruiser. Now I'm really excited about the custom 22" I'm having built by Standard!
