Found a good cruiser for my klunker project.
I've wanted to do one of these beach cruiser/BMX klunker's for a while now.
Picked this one up yesterday and started throwing old BMX parts on it as soon as I got it home.
It's actually pretty light and rides smooth and comfy. Still trying to get used to the coaster brake, almost put it down few times trying to freewheel around sharp corners.
I know I'm opening myself up for a lot of criticism with this but, what do you guys think?![]()

Re: Found a good cruiser for my klunker project.
Thanks guys. I agree a layback would look better, but I didn't have a 7/8" layback on hand at the time. I literally took this picture an hour after getting it home.
The straight post just wasn't as comfortable.
Thanks for your opinions. Now I'm on the hunt for a long 7/8 layback post.![]()

I love my klunker, you got to ditch the coaster brake. I just built a new rear rim for this one, dk flip flop, running a 13 freewheel and 36 front.

Re: Found a good cruiser for my klunker project.
I'd do a few things:
1. Replace the seat with something less slim, and put on a straight seatpost and lower it. Back in the 70's, Klunkers had fat seats that were ran low.
2. Either switch to a freewheel hub and put on a back brake like skunkbros, or put on a front brake if you're going to keep the coaster.
3. Switch out the tire tread to something with more grip for dirt.
I'm making these suggestions assuming that you will be riding some mountain bike trails with this bike. I think these things will help the bike ride better. If it's never going to touch dirt, then just keep the way it is, it looks cool.

I agree. Gumwalls and different forks will really set it off. Maybe some chrome landing gear forks?!

Re: Found a good cruiser for my klunker project.
Thanks for the suggestions. I have made a lot of changes and will post new pictures soon. just waiting for brakes and new tires to show up.
It is now black and has some cheap straight forks and a simple layback post with a different seat.

Sweet. Did you powder coat it? Post some pics when you have a moment.

Re: Found a good cruiser for my klunker project.
This is how it looks so far.
I found a V-brake adapter, but I'm not sure I'm going to use it. I think I'm going to cut off the kickstand and weld a brake plate to the frame down low.
The chainguard tabs will go too. It's just a rattle can paint job for now to see if I like it black. I think I do.![]()

That looks great. How did you mount that brake support in the rear? I love those tires too. Do you have any more plans for it?

It bolted right up to the brake bridge/reflector mount with a little help from zip ties on the lower arms of the adapter. I had to put it on the underside to get the brake pads to reach.
I think the brakes will be re-located to the space behind the bottom bracket once I get a plate welded in.
I have a lot more planned for it, but I have other projects at the moment.

I can not sit still. I have been tested for A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. and have neither. I don't need coffee, I just need a B.M.X. or surfboard to consistently ride and I'll be happy.
