What wheel set would the money be going toward? And what if other wheels were available for less money, or if wheels were available for donation for a charitable cause? Post up what you're looking for or needing to finish the bike.
Will this bike then be sold or auctioned off with the proceeds going to the track, program or charity? Will recognized receipts be provided to donors for purpose of taxes?
I ask because an employee of mine has a child with autism and is actively involved with:
DisabledPlanet.net
She's taken interest in your project and wants to add you to her larger awareness group, but needs more details of what structure and local and national recognition you now have.
Most important, she's asked that you provide the: Tax ID number for your charitable group so she can move ahead.
This type of recognition and interest could be the beginning of a great relationship, and I hope you to be able to provide what she needs to aid in fundraising and organizational matters.
I'll put you in touch with her, or you can let it play out here on the museum. I know she took an interest last year when I mentioned the museum, kids and bikes, and the two local groups working to get said bikes to special needs children.
You should post testimonials or letters from the schools and churches you work with, or establish a free webpage to track both your events and to outline or illustrate your cause.
The pics you posted last year when dropping off the bikes at the local school was great, and surely helped with interest. Second, when you posted up the letters from the kids lobbying for the donated bikes you also had attention you didn't know about.
With a free webpage and recognized charitable Tax ID you could take things to a whole different level.
Now post up and help some kids out!![]()

First off glad to see you posting Eric
second you have missed a lot since your hiatis but I can't fill you or you lady friend in with just one post. I would very much so like to hear what your friend has to offer. My email and contact info is public on all forums I use.
but just in case you can email me through the program at: freebike72@aol.com
Even though I run a open program and most information is public knowledge. I do reserve the right to limit sensetive information to the public without consultation first. Any one requesting a tax wright off sheet will receive one at or after there donation(s) are received.
...as for the wheels my good friend, they are a set of used 24" white skyway mag wheels. I have placed numerous ads in search of a affordable set. To be used on a 1959 Murray to be used exclusively by Special Needs Special Children to help promote autism awareness. In which our group is a advocate of. I would also like to proudly mention that many sponsors have pledge to assist us in this project.

Perfect.
Kids' peers get what's going on when associating with others. The bike program sparked interest last year, and when I first sent her a link to the museum she conjured up a slew of ideas regarding spreading awareness via the kids themselves.
The young lady emailed earlier today asking about the autism awareness angle and inquired about directly working with, or through the museum to approach charitable causes in a different manner.
It was the tribute bike this time that got her thinking. Unlike efforts of before, such as giving directly to the kids, the tribute bike would be showcased and brought to the track or wherever 'Special Needs, Special Children' travels.
She's intrigued by the advantages that branding and logos carry. And if sponsors were tasked with supporting a cause by way of a bike that was to be raced at a local track with a plate (much like has already been done), stickers and a jersey, almost like a race-car, then the open ended results could be boundless.
Aware of the enthusiasm that all of us have for BMX, something she's unfamiliar with, I can see that her wheels are turning; pun intended. I know she organizes, and I've been part of, walks in the Chicago and suburban villages.
I was asked, "what if there were races or rides" in support of charities, much like the larger "walks".
Personally, I thought what she was thinking to be pretty neat. If there was to be a merger of everything we do here; rides, tracks, plates, stickers, shirts, meetups, shows, builds, programs, donations, trades, giveaways, trophies, websites and more, well that could capture an entirely different audience.
Anyway, her brainchild, your program, and that of the Midwest donation program all got her motivated to do something different. We'll see if something happens now. I know she's lurked for the last year and has contacted me a few times with interest, but today was different.
From me to you, I know that website portals and tax ID's are something that bring legitimacy to the table. And this was asked about a couple of times. Part of the posting of all this publicly is to help flush ideas and assistance from more lurkers or able individuals.
I've been in contact and answering questions for the greater part of two seasons now and can sense the interest is great. Today helped hone yet another private idea, and a cool one at that.
I know I'd attend more "rides" than "walks" for charitable causes! I'd also be more inclined to sponsor a charitable showcase build than to buy a T-shirt or something. Hopefully this long post helps both the dedicated and lurker alike have a meeting of the minds and put some stuff to action!
Good luck, and hopefully you get a PM or email soon. And congrats on reaching the goal of obtaining the mags for the bike!
If a 'Critical Mass ride' was to take on a 'Breast Cancer walk' vibe, well that would be the bees-knees!
Think about it?!
And no matter what, keep doing what you're doing. If one lone kid benefits from your efforts it's still one more kid that wouldn't otherwise have had the opportunity. Grass roots, buddy!

Re: O.G.O.A.R CLUB
Eric I appreciate your efforts... Give your friend my info or contact me directly and we can talk. All I care about are the children I work with day by day. That is the reason my sponsors/supporter back me. Not because of my ability to network, but because I do what I say, and I give credit to where it is due....the community. The program is nothing with out the help of the community bmx or other.
I like to make things happen even at my own expense.....anything to see a kid/family one step closer to happiness. If your friend is ready to help those efforts then I look forward to there call/email/pm.
