100% agreed. I have seen a few of these threads lately and I doubt any of the original posters spent any time on a new school bike or the skatepark.   cool

Nope, my skatepark days are behind me, but it does prove my point that you have to live and die new school bikes to know one from the other. There are so many older bikes that i never owned or rode and many i never even saw in person but i can still ID most of them.

yes because you lived and died BMX in the 80's IE road one read BMX plus and other mags. so you became familyer with them over time!tongue

look closer at new school there are frame diffrances. they may be more sutl. than the 80's bikes wear. but new shool bikes do have ways of spoting diffrent bransds/ models!

Show bikes are nice. but bikes wear ment to be Petaled
YES I RIDE A PINK BIKE!! WANT TO MAKE SOME THING OUT OF IT!

Re: The newschool sheep effect

these threads always make me laugh.

all the 80s bikes looked the same when you stack them next to each other. no argument there. get some random skatepark kid to id your master next to a torker the same way you can id a regulator to a guttershark.

platforms? went away a long time ago. why? nobody used them anymore.

fat tires? more rubber means more surface area for grip and more surface of tire contact when you land. gives you more cushion. no
brainer really.

from styling standpoint, the sky is the limit in todays market. you can get ANYTHING you want in any configuration or color.

I guess it's all a matter of trends, everyone jumps on board whether it's for sales or because it works. It was the same with platform frames. Then it was pegs and detanglers. Then when surfing fell out of style the platforms went away and Xgames drove bikes into being over built, so then you have the mid school built like a tank bikes with big everything, gussets everywhere, and dropouts the size of dinner plates to protect your hubs. I may be completely wrong but what i see is basically everyone jumped on board with what companies like S&M were doing with building simple well built designs without all the gimmicks, and everyone followed suit.
.

you must have been missing for a big chuck of time in bmx.  s+m didnt start it, the WHOLE industry (and i mean rider owned companies)
started to make bikes without the gimmicks. if anything s+m was biting off other companies designs/upgrades...

I guess it's that time of the month again...These threads surface at least once a month tongue

To the untrained eye, the NS frames DO look the same. However, once you get to really know them, you can ID most of the NS frames easily.

Just a little rant here, but what's with this whole new school thing where every company out there is building the same frame? I can't tell one from the next, and you can only get so creative with geometry/paint/stickers. Does anyone out there still build an original/unique looking frame or are we doomed to look at double triangle frames until the next freestyle craze comes back around and we get some proper platform frames again?

/rant

It's because you do not pay attention to ubber small details.
Drop outs change for every co.
Some have wish bones
Some have wave down tubes
Some have ovle down tubes.
Some the chain stays start on the TT
Some start at the back of the seat post
Head tubes
BB
Some have integrated seat clamps.
Some have integrated seat post'skink likes to curve the brace between the seats stays

I'm a rider not a speller... Sorry if you dislike  but I try hard. So please take it easy.

There's probably a cracked one at a landfill near you.  Those frames are known for cracking, although they do look cool.

Honestly i'm not much concerned about it cracking as i really don't ride hard anymore. It's a tough thing to accept but the last 5 times i've been out i haven't even bunny hopped a curb. I'm even debating about just getting a nice cruiser but i'm not sure yet. I'm thinking something very light and easy to ride that coasts forever.

The original batch had some issues due to faulty heat treating, but from what I have heard the new ones especially the newest model the grim reaper eternal
suffer no issues.

Well, i mean yeah to an extent but you can't say old school didn't work or we wouldn't be where we are today right?

not really.

while we needed the model T to come along before the boss stang. they in no way can be  compared.

plenty of new school bikes are unique (ok, maybe not unique, but they all aint cookie cutters of each other) .
you just have to get up close to see all the differences.

I've got my old chrome one hanging in the shed that I may be interested in parting with.
