Any idea on the dates? Would like to participate, but want to make sure I will not have any big hurdles in the way this summer filled with other projects.

Sounds like a fun contest, and it'll be a motivator to finally get something built. In.

Re: 2012 SUMMER OPEN BUILD-OFF, SPONSORED BY PLANETBMX.COM & BMXMUSEUM.COM

I dont understand this rule.

One major part  must be acquired in the 12 week window  from the museum. Majors include: Number plate, Bars,Pedals,Crankset,Seat,Seatpost,Grips,Wheels,Tires,or Brakes. In the submission thread, you will need to post a link to the dibs  post for the required part. This makes everyone relatively even, since you can't go into the tubs and pull out all of your goodies.

So we have to buy one thing off the museum for this build? or do all are parts have to be bought off the museum?

Re: 2012 SUMMER OPEN BUILD-OFF, SPONSORED BY PLANETBMX.COM & BMXMUSEUM.COM

I bought my 87 pro compe f/f/b/p on here about 2 months ago got it powdered and it's just been sitting.
Been collecting parts for it for the past 2 months but just bought the last part I needed which was the chainring today from here.
Does that mean I can't enter??

Rule fine tuning will occur shortly, that one will be the subject of discussion too.

I'm not a fan of submitting previously built bikes.

Let me get this straight cuz I can be a dunce from time to time.

1. We have to prove we bought a part from a Museum sale in a certain window

2. We can't use any "new" soft goods (pads, tires, cable's, tubes)

If so, I'm out. I don't build carpet queens. I'm not putting $200 tires on my General.

Re: 2012 SUMMER OPEN BUILD-OFF, SPONSORED BY PLANETBMX.COM & BMXMUSEUM.COM

This sounds fun. I have a question, I have '97 Dyno Compe frame that I was about to do something with for the heck of it. I realize it's post '91, but the geometry, look, design of the frame is identical to an '85 Compe, maybe aside from a serial number or amount of 4130 in the frame.
Would that fall into the "Era correct" category of should I find something else?

POST #15... ERA APPROPRIATE TIRES. AUTHENTIC IF YOU SO CHOOSE, BUT IF YOU MEET THE SPIRIT OF THE ERA... IT'S GOOD. NO ODYSSEY OR THE LIKE... YOU CAN USE ST COPIES, COMP III,IV COPIES,ETC...  THE POINT IS A CREATIVE, KICKASS BIKE. NOT  HOW MUCH YOU SPENT ON TIRES.

Sounds like a cool concept but I am a bit reluctant after the last build off with the amount of work time and thought that I put into the build only to get blown off by some bs votes sad Don't get me wrong I'm certainly not saying that my build was better than anybody elses but when a detailed bike gets blown off for one that's dirty something is wrong roll

Sounds like you're entering contests with expectations... never a good idea.

Agreed.  Do it for the fun of it, an you cannot lose.

Exactly! The way I see it, I came out winning cause I finished my bike even faster.

I asked this too. New tires are fine as long as they are a period correct looking tire. Repop Comp III style ect. No Tioga power blocks or new tread technology. I'm pretty sure new cables and housing are OK.

I have everything already except for bars and other tid bits.

Wanted: NOS or Mint Phil Wood all alloy BMX hub set in black or polished.
GT Race Hubs in chrome or black.

2012 55cm Colnago Master X-Light frame. Any colour.

I dont, i still need a few more items that are pretty hard to come by. It will be a fun challenging time frame.

I can not sit still. I have been tested for A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. and have neither. I don't need coffee, I just need a B.M.X. or surfboard to consistently ride and I'll be happy. smile

If the consensus is for a longer build time, that's cool. Not set in stone. Also, I'm sure not many use dated cables, etc. for an internet contest.  This is a general interest thread, so the clock hasn't started yet..
