I have been challenged!
I was at the lbs and was talking with the owner when he all of a sudden asked me how old I was. I told him I was turning 41 in April. He then challenged me to race in the 41+ class. Hmmmmmmm I have not raced sense 1987. Looks like I am back in training!
What do I do now? What Bike for a 6ft over weight guy? I want to race 20" but I hate new school bike geometry and they all feel so low is there a Mid school or new school bike that feels or has similar geometry to OS bike? Where to begin?
If you are what you eat.....I could be you by morning.

Get a late midschool xl frame, something with a 21.5 top tube length and a 1 1/8" threadless fork.

Re: I have been challenged!
Go to some bike shops and see what feels good.If you are a real big dude you might want a cruiser? and, there are tons of mid and new school bikes that dont have the low profile frame, (short seat tube) if thats what you don't like. look on CL, you never know what you'll find. And find out what frame spec's you need and look on Dan's comp and other sites they should have all spec's and TT options listed

Where the girlies dance in their underpants, at the nudie bar.
Where you see their butt, and their trap stays shut, at the nudie bar.
Where you can’t touch a breast, but you can cave in a chest, at the nudie bar.
Where you look at a thigh, and blacken an eye, at the nudie bar.

Where you swear like a sailor, and wish you could nail her, at the nudie bar.

Re: I have been challenged!
I have a local bike shop in AZ, I would be happy to help you out!! I race in the 41 over intermediate class and race 20" bikes. I deal mostly with SE bikes and ride the new 2012 PK Ripper XLP. They do have a retro looptail that is 21.25 TT and has that old school style and feel. Let me know if I can help out since I am in the same age bracket as you. I am only 5'10" and 180 though, but that really doesn't matter to much when it comes to racing. I have seen many larger guys out there with some mad bike skills and speed!!! ![]()

To me they feel to tight in the steering and short height wise. Even back in the day I was using a CW style bar with a 9" rise and running the neck out a bit.
I like my bikes set up with a more upright riding position. I feel it gives me more leverage to pull the front of the bike up to manual and get some boost when I need it. New school stuff seems low and requires more bent over riding position. Just uncomfortable for me.

I went through my pile of stuff and for now I will be riding the 1999 Torker TR 5.3. I picked up this week. I'm not fond of it yet but with some tweaking and time it might work out.
I will be looking for some tall bars and basic track stuff pad set, helmet, plate and the like.
I rode for years as a kid so it should all come back. As this point I know what I need more than anything is cardio training and some track time.

I say go to a competing bike shop and ask them for help or a free ride to help with.
Or hit up pjohn!
I'm looking for the following frames, frame & forks or completes by BMX products:
MotoTrac (nickle or chrome), Racer-X or a Super-X (with the double gussets preferred).
Thanks

New tracks are not like the old tracks we knew as a kid.

Well for me its kinda like this. My brain and my muscle memory are set to a specific way of riding and type of bike that feels comfortable under me. I know that if I was to keep riding a new school bike for a long period of time I would adapt. Yet why should I? I like what I like. My body is comfortable on OS stuff. So why not build a bike that suits me and my riding style? Everyone I know builds a bike suited to them. It has nothing to do letting go of the past. It has everything to do with riding style.

You'll know why the first time you try to ride an old-school bike (or new-school bike configured all old-school) over, like, the rhythm section of a new-school track.
(I used to think the same way you do, now, and I, too, am an old-school racer.)
I don't ride a BMX bike to look cool to others, I do it because it's fun and never do I think "Boy I sure am cool on my BMX bike."

Re: I have been challenged!
I went from riding a tiny 20" bike w/135 MM cranks to riding a mtn bike, then to a road bike, then back to another mtn bike, to a 24" cruiser w/no difficulty transitioning. Of course, I'm not an aggressive rider.
