Question folks, is there somewhere in the awesome 132 pages that tells a mongoose newbe "where" to place new frame and fork stickers. Like maybe dimensions from headset back or fork stay down or...??? Or does everyone just eyeball them compared to everyone elses geese?
Do you think they measured at the factory?

Umm, I think they followed some guide line, not just "here, here, here, and here", hell man you'd end up with dam stickers all over the bike ![]()
So if the collective and always soooooo very helpful (insert sarcasm icon for above quote) knowledge of the museum gurus say F-it put em where you want, then so be it. I just thought with all of the attempts at OEM and OG perfection that one of you would know where the silly arse stickers get placed. Oh well, never mind.

Not sure what year/model you have, but here's my 79. Decals were replaced exactly as they were applied when new.

Re: Mongoose Builds! Mongoose Questions! Post them here...
Just do it roughly like the bike above. Some of them had the top-tube decal with the orange stripe in front, some the red. Some of the seat-stay decals were in the middle and some up higher. The Motomag decal can be seen all over the down-tube. Different workers installed the decals on different days and Mongoose made a lot of frames. So, there are a lot of examples of varied decal placement. Just go for it...

Yes, there were mistakes. But as a "rule", the red faces forward on the the top tube decal. Take a look at the catalogs.

Yeh I just looked at that. I installed it "both" ways wrong, I purposely put it on the down tube due to the pad but I oops'd it on the red facing rear, oh well. The wife Looooooooooves it the way it is, told me "quit being anal about it, it's my bike and I like it like it is". She was up town shopping and I was trying to rush thru it before she got home to see it finished, I'm a dumb arse.
All this in the past 10 minutes makes me think that I have A.A.D.D. cause I could not wait a minute to look thru this post before installing them. Pictures up in a minute after I eat my supper ![]()

A lot of kids put the decal on the downtube if they got replacement decals so it wouldn't be covered by the pad, especially if they weren't running Motomags. Agreed on red forward.

The above "rules" are correct but as already noted there's a lot of different ways.
This is my 77 that belonged to a Factory rider here in OZ. I was told it was the first frame in Australia. ![]()

Re: Mongoose Builds! Mongoose Questions! Post them here...
Well here are some crappy pics of it. I set my camera to "email" size pics so I didn't have to F-with down sizing them so the quality suffered a little.
This was MY spring build and was basically done gathering parts to do a Blue and Red thyme and then the Mrs. Mxfan69 descided she wanted it.........so it went purple. It cool though, gave me a nice stock pile of parts for a white Race Inc frame build I am into right now.

Built this with the help of my 4 year old son on his b-day. He picked the tuffs and the tires and he also did the number plate. He says the tuffs and the knobbies make his bike look "angry!" ![]()
He digs it, I think it's pretty cool too... ![]()

Just soaked some stuff in white vinegar. This is basically as far as this resto wil go....I won't refinish anything, just clean it as best I can....excpet the bars...they are rough.
Fork just getting dropped in the vinegar;

Just after coming out of the vinegar...there's some pitting, but oh well:

Stem before being removed from the bike;
Seatclamp area, before;
Stem and clamp, and some hardware after the vinegar bath;
Everything I own is for sale. Pm any interest.

Looks great! Love that little smile as he's riding away. Then the "Still taking pictures" look.
I've always liked the look of the fat tires w/ big knobbies slapped on black Tuffs. And your boy is right, it does look "angry."
The purple build looks good too. I can't show it to my older daughter yet or she'll have me building one for her before I can actually finish mine. She loves purple!
Would you look at this doughnut?

Thanks. The wife is Ca-ca-ca-CAAAARazy over purple. Clothes, house accessories, one of our spare bedrooms walls, etc. Last year we were fixing to repaint our tubbed out 55' Chevy purple and white due to her influence but ended up selling it first. Woman loves her purple.
