Please explain your technique ![]()
What grit sandpaper was used? Start out with something coarse and go finer? Is it polished or clear coated? Just curious. It looks great!

I'm curious if others would be interested in this as a service. I'm not sure I want to take on a bunch of resto's but was curious of everyone's thoughts.
Basically a lot of hand work, cleaning, sanding, reshaping, plastic polishing, glass beading and a final dye. I gave it a quick shot of plastic polish and in my hands it "almost" looks NOS. Obviously I need to put a set of decals on it. I think painting on the logo would be better, masked off with a decal then painted.
I have a red NOS knockoff "KMX" seat that looks almost identical once refinished.

Re: refurbished 80 Kashimax MX 36h
I have an old Elina seat. In the area where your scratches are it is (was) glossy whereas the Kashi has got graining/texture.
Is there any way to sand out the scratches and then polish the plastic so it is glossy again?

Probably so, I'd need to sand the scratch out completely, then polish. The material you are removing will slightly change the shape so it needs to be blended.

Thanks man! I had fun doign it. I enjoy refurbishing these old part and making them look new again. I've done frames, hubs, rims, brakes/levels, seats, sprockets, spiders, stems, seatpost clamps and seat posts - that's a lot of S parts.

Wow. Nice job!
The bead blast seems essential to get that texture back. Very cool.

Re: refurbished 80 Kashimax MX 36h
that's awesome! I wonder if there's a way to remove scuffs out of a seat with a leather-like texture.

Re: refurbished 80 Kashimax MX 36h
Plastic polish, hand rubbing and buffer wheels. I had a business years ago where I worked with plastics and have a lot of materials from that time period.
I have a bead blast cabinet and a vibrator tumbler coming in the mail. I have a lot of ideas to start on in the next few weeks. Would anyone be interested in having me do resto on your beat up seat? If so PM me and I can post a for sale listing.

Re: refurbished 80 Kashimax MX 36h
Here is the latest attempt. I plan to blast after it warms up a bit. I have a new technique for this one and may not need to dye it at all. This seat was scratch from one end to the other. No cracks, but really thrashed.
