1981 Thruster Vanishing Point

Thurster Vanising Point

My dad bought me this bike when i was around 11 years old, i spent every penny i could earn and save on it the next 5 or so years. I raced it locally and did pretty well. I raced with it in Westfield, Ma., Northampton, Ma. and South Windsor, Ct. The bike was not purchased as a whole but as a work in progress. I started with the frame and forks and took the wheels off my Rampar which was my first BMX bike. These wheels were gold araya 7x. I also took the Aluminum Sugino (i think thats what they were) and replaced with Redline 401 Flight Cranks. Later on i replaced the Araya wheels with Blue 7x wheels with Shimano dx hubs. The bike started with Thruster Power Bars then when i got a little bigger i replaced those with Hutch bars. It has a gold Tuff Neck ( might be called a pro neck actually), a gold power disc with Blue sprocket, Blue Shimano Dx Pedals, excalibur seatpost, Izumi blue aand chrome chain.Kashimax areo seat on a hutch seat post, tange bottom bracket set and tamge headset with one of those dirt shields., california lite pads and a Haro color panel plate, chrome mx 1000 rear brake w terry cable and Haro 2 finger lever. I have all the reciepts for the parts that are on the bike! I also have the original box and instructions and tools for the flight cranks.I also have a receipt showing returning a set of thruster forks to the mfg that they either made incorrectly or bent forward, they replaced them at no charge. I rode this bike everywhere up till i was 15 or so. I never rode this in the snow or rain, i actually would carry it over puddles! E real good memeory was in 1982 I think it was, my dad took me on a cross country trip to see yellowstone park and Mount rushmore etc. I brought the bike with me in the back of his station wagon. The cool part was coming home we went through what i think is called Bear Tooth Pass, somewhere in Wyoming or Montana, its this mountain pass thats over 10,000 feet above see level. There was bar at the top of the mountain setup in the snow bank that the town of Red Lodge sponsors every year once a day. Somehow i managed to talk my dad into letting me ride down the mountain. It was probally the drink he had because he normally would of said no to something "dangerous" like that. That was a awesome ride !! I remeber passing a couple cars that crawled down the decent..My dad said he never saw someone go so fast on a bike. It was quite the thrill for a 11 year old. A few weeks after that i broke my ankle while riding at the local sand pit i had built a track at. I didnt let that stop me from riding long. Even though i had a huge cast on my leg i still would coast around on the bike. After i got a walking cast on my leg i raced with the cast on, theres a movie my dad took with me wining a main with it on my leg! After getting into Radio Control car racing, my drivers then real cars , the bike was parked in the basement and moved several times all over the place as i grew up. I am not suer why i kept it all these years, i guess it was because it was such a big part of my life for so long. I actually think i am ready to sell it now, not sure what ist worth, its in really nice condition still. I will never use it and i never had a son so.. it would be nice if it went to someone who could enjoy and preserve it. Ryan Archambault

Re: 1981 Thruster Vanishing Point

Hi,
can someone give me a idea of what this bike would sell for? The chrome has no rust or scratches, i polished a small area with mothers chrome polsih and it looks better than new, same thing on the cranks, the polish doesnt remove the light scuffs but really hides them. Only thing really wrong is the rear wheel has a wobble. It may need truing but it could be a bend in the wheel.
If i did decide to sell i would prefer to let go as complete unit. I would provide the redline box and all receipts if interested.
I am located in Southampton, ma.
Thanks
Ryan

Keep it dude.  It means more to you than anyone else on this Earth.  95% chance it will be parted out by the person who ends up with it and that would be a shame.  That bike has history and should stay as is.  I've got a VP as well, but your is far cooler.

I'd love to have it, but it'd be a shame to see it leave it's original owner.
