1998 Fabweld FW-01
1998 Fabweld FW-01
These frames were manufactured and designed by none other than Greg Esser.(The Essers That started the NBL) Fabweld is a fabrication shop in Florida that makes alot of different things. After being out of BMX for sometime,Greg got reinvolved inthe early to mid nineties. This was his effort at a design of his own. They made a decent set of 3 piece cranks as well as frames and forks.I'm not sure if these bikes on their own would be worth that kind of price, but considering they are from the" Esser Lineage"might add some value.Hope this helps.

Now mobass, me and lovethegoose were just murdering this thing a sec ago. Well, really just funnin with it but it was fun tho.
But seriously, how would this thing handle? With no support down low I believe it be combersome as wet paper sack full of mashed potatoes on the track. Just my opinion.

I do not like it's design, but I bet it is quality like Gary, PJ, and Mutt said. *I* will never like it's look though. So there..., lol ![]()

Re: 1998 Fabweld FW-01
i love the creativity, god knows the welds are top quality, but i am not going to be the one getting his leg stuck in the chain assembly on this bike. and like i already said. "where do i mount my kickstand?" lol... but i cant knock the originality.
when i see a mongoose at walmart, i try and picture the metal being used to make something more useful, like a frying pan, or maybe some clothes hangers...oh well...its out of my hands.
my bikes are tri-moly. that means i have 3 times more chromo than you..haha

If *I* designed it, it'd looked more like this:

Re: 1998 Fabweld FW-01
Hey guys...
I owned a 20 inch fabweld at one time.I met Pete who at the time was fabwelds' shop manager.I got a local shop to buy a couple of frames and Pete gave me a frame. It rode pretty normally although it had alot of flex in the bottom bracket. There were allignment problems as well for your chainring and chain.you had to get your spacers exactly right....Cranks on...cranks off!Traded it for a used clayborn.

Re: 1998 Fabweld FW-01
i love the look of this frame. its different but cool. hey RealFox forgive me for saying so, but your design wouldnt work because of chain clearance issues- looks good though. ![]()

Re: 1998 Fabweld FW-01
Date is incorrect. This frame did not come out until 1998 per the ABA.
George Esser: Father of past top ranked racers Greg & Bryan Esser, George was the founder and one time President of NBL. He was co-founder of IBMXF, along with Gerrit Does. He was, at one time, part owner of MCS. Later, George and son Greg owned and operated Fab-Weld of Pompano Beach, FL, manufacturer of frames and product for many big name companies. In 1998, they introduced the FW-1, their own chromoly BMX frameset under the Fab-Weld name. Sadly, George Esser passed away in August of 2006
