The Michigan Mountain Bike Association is building a downhill dual slalom course at Stony Creek Metropark. The course build day is scheduled for 8/6/2011 at 10:00 AM, any and all help is welcomed. If you know how to build jumps or berms and feel like expending some energy then please keep this event in mind. I spent some time over the last week putting in the first two rollers and part of the 1st berm but there's still a ton of work to be done. This thing should be a blast once it is completed. Come on down and help create another, free, place for us all to enjoy dirt jumping.

This is the original plan but I am sure that things will change slightly based on where the dirt has been dumped and the grade of the hill.

Yeah a ride would be great once it's done, just bring some pads and possibly a helmet. Plus there's always a ton of scenery to look at it if you ride the paved trail.

Pics from today, obviously the loader operator wasn't quite sure what to do. Just means more exercise!

The little bit that has been completed was all done by me. At the rate we/I am going this should be finished around fall of 2017.

Very slow going. The dirt is out there and has been spread down the course but it's all manual labor now. Apparently the park isn't helping or loaning any earth moving equipment so its going to take a while.

similiar situation here too at this park im working on it is really bad with the budget cuts. i just need to be thankful its even open in the first place.

Progress has been kind of slow but steady. Still looking for some help, now's the time, you're not going to get much better digging weather. I spent about 4.5 hours out there today smoothing out and finishing the lower parts that were started a week or two ago. As of now the top portion has been laid in and the bottom portion is coming along. Work still needs to be done on the upper berms and middle section but those may not get completed until next year (at the rate we're going)

I may be willing to divulge where some of the local dirt jumps are if anyone can be bothered to consider volunteering some of their time out at Stony. I won't hold my breath though! Yep, believe it or not, there are actually some sweet dirt jumps in the metro Detroit area.

Looks like a lot of work. Good luck getting people to help.

Our city knows we are too lazy to help ourselves, we contract out......
This is a work in progress. Should be complete within the next few weeks.
