Original paint and decals.

Started this project as an attempt to recreate my childhood bike—an 84 Pro Performer custom.

Re: 1985 GT Pro Performer

I love it!  I am building an '85 as well... same color too.  What color tires are you going with?  I am using blue components, but with white Tuffs and black tires.  Just like the 1985 ads for the PP.

Re: 1985 GT Pro Performer

thanks eric!
i'm going with the white tires. i felt like the black tires and blue tuffs (like the ad before the one with the white tuffs) didn't have enough contrast. i think i'm gonna go with the cheng shin gumwall freestyle tires since i'll actually be riding it. those GT gumwall freestyles are just way too much $ to get any street time. i'll save those for the 84.

looking forward to seeing yours!

Dude! Love the color combo.  I have a set of blue skyways on white gums tucked away, and this GT is a great inspiration for a SD Charger bike I have been wanting to build for Sunday games.

Re: 1985 GT Pro Performer

Nice, I see you went with the pro bars but a Pro neck instead of a tufneck...does that mean the 85 performer bars are for sale???? good luck finding aluminum flange white tuffs, im still trying to find black tuffs for my 84 and 85...

Re: 1985 GT Pro Performer

Nice bike smile

I liked it with the blue bits too. Nothing wrong with the Jap ones, they know how to do it there and they used full chromo unlike the Taiwan ones. Think how much quality oldschool bmx stuff came out of Japan

Re: 1985 GT Pro Performer

If those are the original decals then it could be a USA built frame..85's had three differnt type of possible serial numbers... the x85xxxx USA serial, the 5xxxx baseball and the G5xxxx on the BB for japan...

it's a G5xxxx frame, but an early one from March of 85, hence the first gen (script "Pro") decals.

Re: 1985 GT Pro Performer

well I picked up some what I thought were OG white tuffs that were super dirty. the seller said they were white. turns out they were extremely faded yellow but just a hair too beige to resemble "yellowed" vintage white. I bleach and dyed them. I'll probably look to trade these for a white OG pair eventually but it's cool to see how the yellow tuffs look.
