Re: Diamondback serial #'s

You sure their isn't another serial number somewhere? 1C could be a maker code and 04 the month and 83 the year.
If so there would be a second serial number somewhere.

If not then your guess must be correct. 1 is for 1981, C is for March and it is bike #0483

1=1981

C=batch

0483=build number for that year.

The production of Koisumi frames were identified by batch number, such records helped if it became necessary to trace faults that caused one unit of production to be defective and possibly present in a particular 'batch'

Models available in 1981 were the two 'pro' ranges. You should be able to identify your model here:

Re: Diamondback serial #'s

sweeeeet. I wondered if I'd get any action on this thread.

Thanks guys!

Sparky, I used that guide to get me to my conclusion. Small world, huh?

I broke my camera over the holidays, so I can't post pics. After checking gusset and rear dropouts I'm pretty sure it's a DBII. I realize that contradicts your guide somewhat. 79supergoose believes he had an '81 DBII as well.

Re: Diamondback serial #'s

The Diamond Back II is the 'Silver Streak', no other model had those decals and was released in 1982, with the earliest serial number for that model starting '2'.

If your DB is a looptail and......

...the serial number starts '1' and the rear dropout thickness is approx 3mm, it will either be a small, standard or large pro

...the serial number starts '1' and the rear dropout thickness is approx 1.6mm, it will either be a mini, medium or senior pro

Saying that, serial and geometry is the only way to determine a model, not the decal setup. Take the decals off your bike and you'll probably find there is no contradiction. wink

As mentioned on my site, it was known that Diamond Back decalled up framesets to look like models they were not, simply to meet demand, an example of this was the Pacer 500 frameset decalled and parts madeup up as a Silver Streak.
