1984 Hutch Pro Racer
1984 Hutch Pro Racer
This bike was awesome! (check out my 84 Hutch Pro Racer rebuild)
This bike was purchased in the spring of 1984 (could be a 1983). I was one of very few girls to race in the Midwest and ended up having to race the boys. I raced for several years and enjoyed every minute of it. This bike is the one thing from my youth I just have never been able to get over! I LOVED IT! What can I say some of us never grow up! It was stolen! Someday? Only marking was the letter M (I think) engraved on the bottom brackett. Was there when I purchased it new.

Re: 1984 Hutch Pro Racer
Thank You for the comments on this bike it meant a lot to me. I just purchased a 1981 Hutch Pro Racer with an Un-stamped brake bridge (American made Un-drilled forks). It is in very nice shape but some how it is just not the same. I thought it would fill that void. Some how something so simple as that brake bridge not being stamped and not having some of the same parts as my original 84... I guess it's just not the same. So I have decided to keep my eyes open for a 1984 Hutch Pro Racer (American made, Un-drilled forks and Pro bars) in GREAT condition and I will be on my way. THANKYOU!!!! This is Fun and a bit addicting.

I lived in a rural area of Moorhead Minnesota/ Fargo North Dakota but raced all over both states. Only difference now is this picture would have cattle in it. Maybe that is why I have always liked the western Hutch logo:D

Re: 1984 Hutch Pro Racer
My ultimate goal is to find a 1984 Hutch Pro Racer frame/fork/handlebar in wonderful condition and start from there! I think the hardest thing is just being patient. When I bought this one we just walked into the store and I said I want this, this, and this. Ohhh I guess those where the good old days. This way it is more of a challenge and teaches us patience:rolleyes: Thankyou!

Re: 1984 Hutch Pro Racer
Thanks! I have a feeling it will be LUCK I need... I am working on another Pro Racer as we type:) I may put some ACS Z mags or Skyway Tuff II's on it. It has Araya rims that I question if they are real or not?

Re: 1984 Hutch Pro Racer
Good idea maybe I will do that. They are supposed to be fresh powdered Araya hoops with ACS hubs but their are no markings on them just a sticker. I like stickers and all but I always thought Araya rims were stamped?![]()

Re: 1984 Hutch Pro Racer
Thank You!!!! LUCK I WILL NEED! A 1984 Pro Racer re-build is definitely in my future. However at this time I would like to work on this 1981 Pro Racer and make it a little more me. I am toying with the idea of ditching the Araya's and dong either Skyway Tuff II's or ACS Z Mags? We will have to see this can get very $$$$ and also a bit addicting!![]()

Re: 1984 Hutch Pro Racer
Hutchgirl,
I usually don't post on any forums, but your story got me thinking. My brother and I both had Trick Stars. Both served us well, until we pretty much moved on to driving cars. Mine was taken from the garage when it was left open one saturday. His survived on, and finally got disassembled. I went nuts when I pulled it out of storage two years ago and polished the light pitting off the frame to reveal perfect Hutch show chrome. From that moment on, it was my new place to sink my extra funds. Then JDB came out with the pedals, cranks, pads and decals I needed, and after a pretty long, but well worth wait, I'm a set of Hutch pro bars away from a full Hutch Trick Star. It's not mine, but at least it's family and he doesn't want it. On here, I was able to find an original laid back seat post, 2 N 1, and donut seat clamp. Of course I had already made it a full bike before I got all the Hutch stuff, so I have a set of profile cranks, pedals, and some cheap bike store parts to make it able to ride. If you wait long enough and are in the right place at the right time, you'll make your bike the way you like it.

Re: 1984 Hutch Pro Racer
DieselB59- Cool story! I hope to someday find that perfect bike also at least yours has family history. I still can't understand for the life of me why at almost should I say! Okay 40 I just have never been able to get my 84 Hutch out of my head but the only conclusion I can come to is that I had a wonderful childhood and that bike was a HUGE part of it. It meant so much to me that I would never ride it in the rain and I would keep it in my house at night. I know a little weird but my parents made a clear point that this would be the last bmx bike they bought me. (I had several others). The reason I chose Hutch girl as my name is because that's what kids would call me before they knew me...
Thanks for sharing.

Re: 1984 Hutch Pro Racer
Hutchgirl,
I understand totally everything you said. My brother and I used to park our Trick Stars on the far side of the dining room table and we never took them out in the rain either. I am also almost 40. Things were "perfect" then. We had no worries other than what we were going to do after school. On the weekends we left the house after breakfast and weren't back home until dark. I have twin girls and I ride the Trick Star around the block with my daughters on their new Schwinns following me. Occasionally I get the "hey isn't that bike a little small for you?" Woody Itson was over 6' tall in his heyday! I'm only 5' 10".
