2002 Kuwahara E.T.
2002 Kuwahara E.T.
Kuwahara ET 2002 20th Anniversary Replica
NOS in the box.
Released in 2002 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary Re-Release on the big screen of the ET the Extra-Terrestrial movie and the opening of Universal Studios in Japan.
Kuwahara made just 300 of these ET bikes.
It is a replica of Elliott's bike, the Kuwahara KZ frame that was used in the movie and not a ET looptail replica.
It's a nice addition to the ET collection and goes nicely with the NOS 1982 ET Looptail I have.

I found it advertised on here and pounced on it.
Me getting one of these has a bit of history though.
Back in 2002 I was surfing the net and came accross the addvertisement shown in the 4th photo.
I e-mailed the guy and got a price of around $1000 to buy one and $1000 to ship it from Japan. I didn't collect bmx back then and didn't even know about Kuwahara ET's etc. I remember seeing the movie and my last name is Elliott so yeah yeah how many times have I been told to phone home in my life LOL. Well $2000 was a bit too much to pay back then so I didn't get one.
Fast forward to 2010 and I have my ET collection and one of every model made except the 2002 20th Anniversary ET replica and I really regret that missed opportunity. They were only sold in Japan and Asia so not much chance I will ever get one. Then I log into Museum one evening and there it is, NOS in the box from Hong Kong.
Dibs Dibs Dibs.
The parts are a bit too new and spoil it a bit. That bent seat post and modern seat, the brakes and stem. The paint is slightly brighter than an original ET but the colour is sweet. At some stage I'll build it up I think.
Kuwahara did do that 2007 Laserlite which people claim to be the 25th Anniversary ET but it's a long bow to draw. It's half red, half white so isn't really like an ET paint job and never claimed to be an ET anything. I'd say if it didn't claim to be an ET in any factory marketing and the only possible link was it had a red and white paint job, but that paint job didn't follow the ET white/red/white then I'm tipping it's kind of hard to claim it as any sort of ET?????
I think at best Kuwahara wanted to sell a few bikes and leave the link up to peoples imagination and that way they didn't pay any marketing fees to Universal Studios.
The 2002 20th Anniversary ET Replica was advertised as an ET and had ET in the model number.
It goes well with the rest of them.

I actually clicked on the link in the ad! ![]()
My Father once spoke to me and said "The way you look at your bike is the way I see My children, I look past the imperfections and rough surfaces to the beauty of the finished product."
