Re: 1993 Diamond Back Turbo restoration progress

Have you got a FSA chainwheel?  The sort i have on my '07 Haro Intro would suit it perfectly.......it looks a little Lambo in its design.
I think ive seen them on US ebay lately.

Re: 1993 Diamond Back Turbo restoration progress

You mean like this one?  It's funny you ask because that's exactly why I bought it after you finished your '07 Haro.  I remember asking you where you found it then saw them all over eBay.  My plan was to use it on my Lamborghini bike.  Unfortunately, the cranks I chose have a built in spider so it'll go on Lambo #2...

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/BMX_Museum_2011/83DBTurbo_093.jpg

So, I went through trying out four different tires on two different rims before I nailed the look I was going for.  These tires look brand new but came off a Craigslist bike.  There were thorns all through both of them (look at the lower left corner of the pic).

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/BMX_Museum_2011/83DBTurbo_082.jpg

When I was out and about last week I forgot to pick up those little rubber donuts that go on the bare brake cable to keep it from banging and rubbing against the frame.  So I started looking around the house for a substitute.  Here is what I found and it works and looks pretty cool.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/BMX_Museum_2011/83DBTurbo_083.jpg

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/BMX_Museum_2011/83DBTurbo_084.jpg

I started digging through my bin full of new and used seats looking for the right fit.  I had three or four picked out and thought this looked best.  The gold lightning bolt just didn't match the colors on the rest of the bike so I started experimenting with ways to remove it but not hurt the plastic beneath it.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/BMX_Museum_2011/83DBTurbo_086.jpg

Five minutes on each side and they were gone and still looked like pristine plastic underneath.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/BMX_Museum_2011/83DBTurbo_088.jpg

The seat didn't come with guts so I dug through another bin of seat guts and picked one to experiment with.  I think Calismooth showed one of his seats with chrome guts for the build off and I loved how they looked.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/BMX_Museum_2011/83DBTurbo_089.jpg

So I washed the parts off with soap and water.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/BMX_Museum_2011/83DBTurbo_090.jpg

Then I took them to the buffer.  Pretty close to chrome and it only took about an hour.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/BMX_Museum_2011/83DBTurbo_091.jpg

They look pretty good installed.

Dirty Harry Levers would fit well to the theme of the build. wink
The contrast on the stem looks also cool.
Two days we didnt read anything from you.I think you are working on something tricky now. Maybe the wheels???

Hmmm.  I don't know what Dirty Harry levers look like but I do like the name.  I'm almost done - just putting the final touches on it now.  I should be taking pics this weekend then I'll share. smile

Re: 1993 Diamond Back Turbo restoration progress

They are called Dia Tech 99D "Dirty Harry". They are a bit curved like the trigger of a gun. You can get them in black/gold fitting to the Lambo-Emblem or in black/silver and other colors. Hope the link is working for you.
http://www.bmx-versand.de/images/goldfi … mshebel.jp

I also found something nice, if you are ready for a night ride. Its a foil, looks like glossy black in daylight and in the night when light is shining on the foil,
it is reflecting in white.
http://www.louis.de/index.php?topic=art … mp;lang=en

For that you need a plotter to cut the letters out and put them than on a black magnetic foil that you can take it on the bike (at night), or away (so you can see your decals in day time). It will be a bit work ,but I think that would be looking awesome when the letters will pop up shining white in the night.

On the link from www.louis.de..... there you can see under the pic from the foil, a pic from a motorbike where the foil is on the cases.
If the page is not comming up in english, look up on right site ther you can see a british flag. just klick on it and it wil turn into english.

Yeah gajin, it was nice but I was fighting too many issues.  Thanks Oldschooldude72.  Now I recognize those levers.  That film is wicked cool - too late for this one but maybe down the line.

Re: 1993 Diamond Back Turbo restoration progress

Hey all.  Yes, I'm stalling until I can shoot the final pics - but it's finished.  It is a very tight and fast feeling bike and I've had it out for a couple short rides.  All the neighborhood kids love it.

Until I get the final shots posted, here are a couple things I tried that I didn't like.  I tried several wheel and tire combos until I found the right one.  Here are some nice new silver 36's with red and blue walls.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/BMX_Museum_2011/83DBTurbo_053.jpg

Then I tried a tan wall with a white rim.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/BMX_Museum_2011/83DBTurbo_054.jpg

Then I tried the red walls on the white rims.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l258/GHS_Wired/BMX_Museum_2011/83DBTurbo_094.jpg

None were combos I liked.  Then I nailed it on the 4th try.  I should have them posted by Friday.

Man, I just went through this whole thread to have to wait until Friday!  Arghhh!!!  yikes  lol

Man this is the coolest build yet.  I remember looking at the first pic and thinking "man what an ugly bike, what could he possibly do to this?"

This bike is killer.  You truly do have a knack with your creativity and your builds.  Simply awesome man.  smile

Kelly, where did you find those tires? The red walls. They have given me an idea for my current build.

PorkchopBMX.com is always my first choice for tires so if Justin doesn't carry what I need then I will buy from Pat at Flatlandfuel.com, www.rinienterprises.com or danscomp.com.

The skinwalls came from Porkchop

and the Kenda Kontact red and blue walls came from Rini.  They also have orange (which I didn't buy).
