Older than 86.  I had a white one that I bought in April 85 with that sticker package.

Re: 1985 General Hustler

Well, I'm in the process of restoring one of these.  I had a few sets of these decals made and have been gathering parts.  I've been calling mine an '84.  I can't really confirm that but it's my best guess.  Mine doesn't have a serial number anywhere and I think pretty much all bikes had serial number after '84.

Re: 1985 General Hustler

Serial number was dependent on manufacturer.  I think it may have been an 84 model as well.  All I know for sure is that I bought mine in Spring 85 (with money I had received as gifts from family on my Holy Confirmation).  smile

Re: 1985 General Hustler

i had one of these a LONG time ago. Looks like u have an 85. I had a white one back then. I remember i removed the stickers and made it look like an 84 Haro master. ( almost identical frame)

Re: 1985 General Hustler

I had a General Hustler with the same stickers.  Mine was white and it had spoke wheels.  I got mine for Christmas in 1985.  My parents bought it at a bike shop and also got themselves a General Mountain Bike and a General 10-Speed Bike.  It was made to copy the Haro Freestyler, right down to the "script" writing of Hustler on the down tube to mimic the "script" style writing of Frestyler on the Haro's.  I was disappointed because it was not a Cool name brand bike like GT, Schwinn-Predator, or Haro and it didn't have mag wheels, but almost 25 years later it(yours) looks like a pretty cool old-school bike.  I don't know what happened to mine.

I think you might be right on that Anlun reference.  I always have my eyes peeled for an original white one.  Mine had spoke wheels too (steel shine sides with white spokes and black knock-off snakebellies).  It had a white Dominator seat, if I remember correctly and Victor VP300(?) pedals (like the Haros).  Those were the biggest name parts on there.  The less than notable parts included Chang Star MX1000 style brakes (anno blue), knock-off Suntour seat clamp and stem (anno blue), chrome General freestyle bars and knock-off white A'me Tri's that tore my hands up good.

I upgraded mine with a GT mallet, Potts mod, CW freestyle bars, GT pegs up front and GT frame standers in the rear, Tioga CD chainwheel and Tioga spider.  I got a blue Z-wheel package for Christmas that year.  It was a pretty trick bike when I got done with it.

Post some pics in the "Name It" forum.  That will make it easier for us to figure it out.

Re: 1985 General Hustler

I had a bike like this that I bought after 2 years of delivering newspapers. I am trying to find one for sale, so far no luck. I have started gathering parts and stuff if anyone has any pointers, It would be appreciated. I know it wasn't the most desirable bike, but it looks great and it brings back great memories. Update:I got one!
