1977 DG Pam Coble

1977 DG Pam Coble

I always see people building bikes that a guy raced, how about something different?

Many many years ago when I was just a wee lad in the old country (San Diego) I went to a race in place called "Las Palmas" (Oddly enough, just a few miles from where I now live) Tis' was a great downhill track with many a great racer and lots of pit tootises.

A great combination. Bikes and girls, How could it get better than this? Then I spotted her, a beauty wearing an Encinitas BMX Club jersey. She came up to the gate right before the hacks. Talk about beauty and the beasts. She took off like thunder and swept through the berms. She was not only as fast as the boys, she did it with style. I knew she was the one for me. I had seen her before but this time I got enough courage to talk to her in the next moto.

I'll never forget our conversation: "Ahh, duh, Hmm! Hi Pam" She looked at me with her blue eyes(well, I think she had blue eyes,) saw my endless admiration in my eyes, Tilted her head to one side, saw my name on my tattered Honda Jersey and she said "Hi..umm Rick" and took off for her next race.

Later in the day, I was sitting by the second turn and Pam came flying through. An evil dastardly sandy area caught her front wheel and she went down right in front of me. I helped her get up and almost dusted off the front of her jersey but common sense prevailed. She gave me a quick thanks and went off to pursue her competition. She said something about "see you later."

Ahh Yes, the memories.

That has got to be the best story I've heard in a great while. In a creepy stalker sort of way.
LOL, Joking. Try hunting her down now! That might cross the line of creepy actually. Great story nonetheless!

We need more stories like this, well maybe with a little better ending.

At least you got the bike.

Great Job.

Awesome story, history and replica/restoration. Sweet bike and if you worked hard to track her down, i'm sure she'd probably go out on a date with you if you showed her your Pam DG

Probably not.  smile

She was a great BMX racer (nowdays Olympic class I would say) and it's no different from building a PK Ripper replica for Perry or any bike for a guy racer.

I contacted her.  She was pretty stoked to see people remembered her. Married, kids, still very good looking.   I sent her a link to this and the other sites and she said she couldn't stop laughing..smile

So...... where's the follow up pictures of her on your replica bike?

I'm looking for the following frames, frame & forks or completes by BMX products:
MotoTrac (nickle or chrome), Racer-X or a Super-X (with the double gussets preferred).
Thanks wink

Re: 1977 DG Pam Coble

When I was big into racing in the 80s it was Gaby Bayhi and Deanna(?) Edwards that stuck out down here in Louisiana.  Gaby made it pretty big and Edwards SURE could've.

Cool story and bike.

Who Dat

Starting to look for things Kappa.  Need a seatpost clamp for sure.  And a retro DK stem.  Yeah.

"beauty and the beasts".....I love it!  Very cool story.  Admiring a girl at a BMX track during the glory days...what could be better!?  Now days admiration, adoration, and courtship happen via facebook and twitter.  We have lost something I think!  smile
