1976 Mongoose Motomag
1976 Mongoose Motomag
My "Copper Goose" inspired by the OCC "Statue of Liberty" Copper Chopper...
I wanted to do something a little different with a vintage 1976 "Long" Mongoose build so I went for a nice polished copper on this one. I've never seen one before in copper and I was pretty happy with the way it turned out. The only thing that isn't '76 era-correct is the New School "S&M" sprocket. I liked the way it went with the Motomag 1's and gave a slight hint of "moderness" to this unique build... This bike rides very well and feels almost exactly like the first Mongoose I owned back in 1976.

Re: 1976 Mongoose Motomag
That is VERY nice bike. Although the sprocket is "new school" it gives a nice matching touch to the overall result. Beautiful.
Got detail photos of the sprocket and the GOLD bottom bracket please?

Re: 1976 Mongoose Motomag
Sorry Bridge I forgot to answer your question...
The Copper was done by my friend Daryl, who does alot of the plating for Orange County Choppers.
The "Copper Mongoose" was inspired by this "Statue of Liberty Bike" that he did for them:

MWC I'd love to see a picture of that Copper Stingray... I've looked but can't seem to find any pics of one. Copper looks really good on any build IMO. I'm thinking of doing a couple more...![]()

These wheels are arguably the most important historical mag wheel ever invented for bicycle motocross.

Beautiful! What is the tt length? I knew they made a shorty and a regular length tt. Didn't know they made a long. That is sweet!!

Re: 1976 Mongoose Motomag
Thanks for the comment and question. ![]()
To clarify, the regular/standard size Mongoose back in the day ('75 -'76' - '77) is what we now call a "shorty" today and it has TT length of 16.5"
The "long" Mongoose as I call this one (that is what it was called back in '75-'76-'77) is what we know today as a "regular sized" Mongoose, 18.5" TT.

Re: 1976 Mongoose Motomag
that is super sweet. i'm curious - copper oxidizes quickly, how do you maintain that surface? is it sealed somehow? i really like this a lot. instant fav! ![]()
