Good idea. But not just for "My" topics, but also for other user's topics. Instead of just all their posts lumped together. these type of blanket statements are not only rude, but just about the most annoying thing for a developer to hear.

we're not moving from punbb. it's tied in pretty tight with all sorts of custom code i've done on the site. if we had used any other forum software i'd be doing a helluva lot more work to keep the site as fast as it is.

if there is a feature that the community at large feels useful, i will investigate adding it. most often there is a mod for punbb that adds functionality that other forum software offers "stock."

often these seemingly simple features add a lot of overhead to a site this busy, which is the reason we follow the same principles as punbb: start simple & lightweight and add features that are truly useful as needed.

Okay, that's fine, wasn't trying to be rude. I said in a different post that I'm sure there is a reason the site is on punbb, like momentum, or ease of admin, or cost, or who knows what. I should have said that here as well. At any rate, sorry, wasn't trying to offend, though I can see how I did. My guess is that the other very large (non-BMX) sites I'm thinking of are probably running on a lot more powerful hardware etc than this site can realistically have, which would explain all of it, referring to your speed comments. Thank you though for finally seeing and responding to this. I've been asking about it for a very long time and to my knowledge have never seen an answer. Now that it has been answered, I can put it to rest in my head.

As I have also said in other posts, this site is a lot better looking (to my eyes) than the other BMX sites. Which is why I exclusively hang out here, otherwise I wouldn't. No offense intended against some of the other sites, maybe I'd just need to get used to them, but to me they aren't nearly as user-friendly or good-looking as this site is overall.

P.S. - Again, sorry for the curt wording and response... it's no excuse, just been under a lot of pressure with moving, house remodeling, some negative $urpri$e$, etc, been a little on edge and probably a bit too grumpy lately smile

bah, no worries.

this site is on plenty powerful hardware, a dedicated 2gb Slicehost vps, but we're serving up 6.5+ million pageviews a month, running web-, mail- and mysql-servers all from a single box, AND with a single sysadmin/developer. at some point that may have to change, especially if the growth continues as it is. i'd love to hire a real DBA and sysadmin, which would surely allow us to squeeze even more performance out of our server. until we reach that point, we've got my barely-capable ass making things tick.

i love to hear feature requests, and i love to make this site more functional AND better looking. it's constantly improving. a majority of the site is as i coded it five years ago, and there are plenty of areas i plan on improving when i can.

but first thing on the list is definitely the custom For Sale section, which i think is of the most interest to users here. i'm in the thick of coding that right now.

when that's up and fine-tuned and humming along, i'm all about adding some forum features that make users happy. moving For Sale out of punbb will help immensely, as well as setting up a dedicated search that isn't the punbb default. (which has worked pretty well, but it has reached its limit for sure.)

again, i really appreciate feature requests (as well as bug reports) -- but the tone of your request goes a long way to inspiring me to tackle it!

Re: New Features for site, who wants what?

Yeah, sounds good, thanks for the info and replies. If you can make punbb work (and clearly you can) then that's great. Again, sorry for the unintended tone, and I hope you have seen the posts where I have complimented this site above the other BMX (etc) sites as well as wondering/asking about the choices. If not, then I'll say it here again: good job, looking good, keep up the good work.

Re: New Features for site, who wants what?

Be able to sort feedback to find all the feedback I've left for others.

Sort bikes by wheel size. I know members have to enter a wheel size when we submit a bike, but to have a "button" or "link" that you can click to only get 16", 20", 24" etc. would be sweet. Kind of like being able to sort by manufactures by clicking on the letters on the upper left.

Thanks, Nate!!!!!! cool

WHEEL SIZE SORT! That's awesome -  that would be cool! (and since like you say, the field is there, that should be a relatively easy one)

Holy cow, that's one I sure never thought of (sort by wheel size). Great thinking!

Re: New Features for site, who wants what?

how about some kind of friends list or friends icon for the people you pm on a regular basis? you can have like (10) or so.
also somrthing needs to be done about the retaliation feedbacks.
maybe if a negative is left from the seller for whatever reason, a mod would look and determine if the buy or sell has any formalities for a retalitory feedback to be left.?
also what about a itemized list in the f/s section in the corner or something for f,f's , completes, or parts only?
just some ideas. thanks

great idea. i've added it to the list in "improve bmxmuseum navigation." this will be in round 2 of the updates, likely a complete revamp of the museum area. it really needs to be redone now that we have so many damn bikes.

the idea of marking users as a "friend" or "contact" has been in the back of my mind for a while. i really like the way it's set up in flickr, which allows you to keep track of new updates from people you are interested in. you could possibly have a "friends' activity" page that shows uploaded bikes and new posts from those folks.

Re: New Features for site, who wants what?

On-site hosted pics would be great.

That's my biggest gripe. . .that I have to host pics somewhere else, then copy the address here. It's an unnecessary extra step or two. Also, lots of pics eventually disappear.

Also a better for sale section, but to be honest, I'm not even sure where to begin. I look forward to seeing what Nate does.

Re: New Features for site, who wants what?

This site is already awesome just because of the fun & nostalgia of it but because the for sale section has become a very prominent part of it I like the idea of a dibs or buy it now button that ends the sale, too much confusion with overlapping dibs & payments being sent, not to mention the dibs pending, dibs per PM, sending PM, possible dibs and maybe I'll buy it if I had money junk needs to go away!

Re: New Features for site, who wants what?

Maybe someone already mentioned this, but I'm throwing it out there anyway.  In addition to the "my posts, my messages, etc."  could we get a "my notes" feature, wherein we can do exactly as it describes - makes notes for future reference.  Obviously it would have to have a size limit, but this could come in helpful, i.e. -

I build up a bike, mainly of parts from members on this site.  When (finally) posting up the pics of the finished build, it would be nice to have an online notepad to reference, i.e., got the bars from __________, got the wheels from _________, etc, etc.  I know I can't remember all of that, and the PM inbox seems to fill up so fast that by deleting, you may lose where the parts came from.  Also, could help with things like feedback, reminders to yourself, etc.

Re: New Features for site, who wants what?

one small thing I think would be helpful is to have the logo on the homepage refresh the page like all the other pages.

since the homepage has an ever-changing lists of new posts I always find myself clicking the logo to reload the page but have to use my browser's back button.
