Re: HELP...surface rust...!!!!!!!!!!!
I have had good results with vinegar. Should do the trick on lightly rusted chrome. My biggest hassle is getting a large enough tub for a fram. You won't need as much vinegar if you soak some rags in it to lay on the fram vs. submerging the whole thing.

I tried that on mine, but all that did was compress it. Seriously, I suggest steel wool
Steel wool tends to trash the chrome and make it have a haze... Soak it, that's the way to go...

Steel woll seemed to work on all my chrome, but I used on my haro mirra, not wnowing the frame was clear coat just shot over the bare metal. Big mistake. I have never tried vinegar bath, but I will keep that in mind for future chrome cleaning ![]()

Re: HELP...surface rust...!!!!!!!!!!!
Srub with some joy and hot water, use some WD-40 with steel wool/ rinse and dry with fresh water. then buff it out with some chrome polish, one is just as good as the other, mothers or whatever, IMO. Then to protect it you can do some thin T-wax...looks good. Did this on my Pro-Raider and my wifes 73 Schwinn Breeze....sweet ![]()

forget vinegar. Citric Acid powder is what you need! Oxilic acid also works wonders.
SEARCH the forum. good luck!

+1, but I use 0000 steel wool with mothers polish or brass wool, not crazy about vinegar because whats that doing to the inside of your frame?

Re: HELP...surface rust...!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude... search the forums for citric acid powder (CAP). There are a couple of great "how to" threads. I've tried many other methods, but CAP is DEFINITELY the way to go! Environmentally friendly, cheap, fast and effective. Does not require scrubbing or elbow grease! I make a bath with a ratio of one cup of CAP to one gallon of water and it the rust will literally just wipe away!
If it's just very light surface rust, I've also had great luck with 0000 steel wool. Good luck!

its removing the rust from the inside just like the outside.
i hope you dont think that if the outside of the frame is rusted, the inside is not ???
oxide and cap are impossible to get around here. ive long given up on getting that stuff.
its mucho simpler for me to just run down to the local store and spend
4 bucks on a few gallons of vinegar. its also reusable and you can 're-up' its
potency by adding some baking soda to the mix.

Post a pic of the frame then we can give you a direction. Sometimes there is no need to dip them at all.
Looking for a Homeless Soul Bro frame and fork.
Looking for a copy of BMX Inferno from S&M Bikes and any other mid school videos. I have a bunch so maybe we can work out a trade.
