1980 Cook Bros. Racing 26

Gary Cook personally delivered this frame and fork to Gary Erdman

1980 was the rage for 26" cruisers and this bike was originally owned by our famous BMX starter Gary Erdman.  Gary raced for Team Tremco a Minnesota based team which turned into Rondo, then Tahoe.

Kept the bike original but thought it would be neat to match up the CBR pit with the Cruiser at the Rockford event.  Decided to drop the Green and black for the traditional Blue, Chrome, and White of Cook Bros.

Everything is Cook Bros. and yes those are NOS Cycle Pro Snakebelly tires on NOS UKAI rims.

This bike was 2nd place for the Cruiser bike category at the 2009 Rockford Vintage gathering.
1st place and Best in Show at the 2009 Ottawa IL. gathering.
1st place Cruiser BMX Society 2009 online contest

Hope you enjoy another historical ride.

Re: 1980 Cook Bros. Racing 26

Doing some research and talk about era correct and original.  Didn't even realize they made 26" snakebellies and to have them NOS, crazy big_smile  Talk about "dialed in" wink

Did they make a racing handlebar with less sweep?

Sweet ride

Re: 1980 Cook Bros. Racing 26

The 26" snakebellies weren't around too long as the 24" cruisers became more popular with the Comp III's.  I seen this bike raced in 1980 and can't imagine racing with those bars but they did!  I have a set of Cook's cruiser bars with mininal sweep compared to the 1st gen's.

Thanks for the positive feedback!

Re: 1980 Cook Bros. Racing 26

I lived in Garden Grove in the 80's and spent many days down at Newport.  That sounds very cool to ride the CBR there and the next time I am out I may have to do just that!

The bike was entered in the '09 OS-BMX Bike of the Year and won it's class, way gnarly!!!

Thanks for the positive feedback!
