Re: 1988 Mongoose Decade Pro

Thats actually a pretty fair price, it would half to have the original ACS RL Edge equipment for me to even think about bidding though. By the way Ill take 800 for my 87 Decade Pro

I loved the bike when I was a kid. It's a late 80's asian import. As far as freestyle bikes go it's not nearly as valuable as the Haro. Hutch, Skyway, Redline bikes. The survivors I've seen that are complete are selling in the $80-150 range. Frames with some componants under $40.

The decade pro posted at the top of this thread sold on ebay. I think it was up for 400 and didn't sell and then I seem to remember it finally solf for $250 and that's the nicest one I've seen that's sold recently.

ACTUALLY THE ONE ON EBAY JUST SOLD FOR $570, ZOINKS!!!!!

Re: 1988 Mongoose Decade Pro

What were the original tires that came on this bike?  Were they white?

Re: 1988 Mongoose Decade Pro

They were both optional, along with several other parts.
Ive seen Decade Pro's with different options just like Decades n FS-1's...
that you could pick out at the dealer at the time of sale.

Re: 1988 Mongoose Decade Pro

I was wondering, does the 1988 Mongoose Decade Pro also have a fixed gear rear hub switching mechanism like the "ACS Freetrack Hub" on the '87 Decade Pro?

I found a brochure online that says the '88 has the "ACS RL rear hub" - so I assume it's either an improvement on the fixed gear switching system or an abandonment of that innovation.

I'm really curious.  I just learned about this hub/freewheel and I've been researching it.  I don't even know how the rider activates the "switch" - I don't see an extra lever anywhere.  I don't even know if the system is in the hub or on the freewheel but I did find this cool page: http://www.63xc.com/daves/sunone.htm Is this the ACS Freetrack Hub, ACS RL rear hub or something else?  It's really cool, check it out.

Do you or anyone else ever ride a BMX in fixed gear?  I imagine in must feel like a 2 wheeled unicycle which would certainly open up a whole new world of tricks - and the freedom to switch back to freewheel makes it seem even better but this innovation seems to have been abandoned.  Is that true or are they still out there under different brand names?  I find lots of flip-flop hubs but not many examples of a switch that does it without having to flip your hub around.

Sorry for all the questions but this is the only '88 Decade Pro on the museum (that must be a cool feeling) cool so I thought I'd ask here.

All the Best!

Re: 1988 Mongoose Decade Pro

I just picked up a red 1988 mongoose decade mag. All original except tubes. Bike is in mint condition. Sat in a basement since 1990. No rust anywere.

Picked it up cheap bought some new 100 psi tubes and the bike is as good as new.

I wish mongoose still made bike like they used to.

The RL edge hubs were a freewheel that did not allow the pedels to rotate backwards when rolling backwards I believe, if my mind serves me correctly.

Re: 1988 Mongoose Decade Pro

ive just finished my survuvor build on my 1987 mongoose decade pro.
87 pink one have the "freektrack" rear hub and the 88 black frames have the RL freecoaster rear hub.
also the 88 have the bosses in the rear of the frame for the screw in pegs to be mounted.
87 pink ones dont have that.
check my 87 pro out in my bike section....its as good as this 88
