2000 Schwinn Canadian Beast Jay Miron

Schwinn U.S.A-made Jay Miron Signature frame

Schwinn Torque Flite made its appearance in 1997, it was the team ride for some cool riders (including Jay Miron & Dave Osato) of the Schwinn-Toyota freestyle team.
In the year 2000, Torque Flite became the signature frame of Jay Miron himself.....and Schwinn sold this frame under his nickname: "Canadian Beast"
I'm planning on building this beauty, and riding it from time to time to remember those good old days smile
I'll update it as long as there's progress.
* Frame: Schwinn Canadian Beast 100% 4130 Cr-Mo, U.S.A-made. internally machined headtube and bottom bracket, lighter and butted tubing, NO serial number on the frame.

* Handlebars: Schwinn/XS Freestyle 4pc, Cro-Mo

Re: 2000 Schwinn Canadian Beast Jay Miron

BEAUTIFUL frame, man. I had a buddy a while back that rode for Schwinn for a while and, when he was on the team (even before I think), he rode the same frame. INDESTRUCTIBLE. It had to be for the frame to have never broken because the friend I'm talking about is Koji Kraft. He has never taken it easy on a bike...or his body for that matter.

I have a brand new set (SLIGHT shelf wear) set of the black USA made forks w/ Matching USA decals on them if you need them.

They are not the ones with the brake mounts and peg bosses...just straight leg beefy chromoly w/ 3/8" dropouts.

LMK if you are interested in them for the build. I'll let them go cheaply.

Re: 2000 Schwinn Canadian Beast Jay Miron

Thanks guys!
I consider myself lucky for finding this one in a good condition.

Yeah Zach, Tour, Canadian Beast & S351 USA Mirra were the best looking bikes from the era! smile

Carl believe me...BEAUTIFUL was exactly what i said when i firstly looked at this frame.
I've always been a fan of Miron, his fakie nose manuals and 360 tailwhips are off the hook!!!
And my thought when i saw that frame up for sale was "i gotta have this!!!"

I'd like to see the forks....sounds cool!!
Thought buying the frame left me broke......could you post me some pics?

Hey Kevin....how's it going?
This was my next on the list (i wish the last one too lol )
Now i have too many projects to finish up......i guess i should start collecting whatever i will need, i won't concentrate on finishing the bikes one by one.......cause i can't!!!!

Hey Duke. CONGRATS! You hit the trifecta of tank vert bikes. When you get it, give us a report of the weight. It was discussed in another thread how light these bikes were although beefy as hell. As we both know as Blammo owners, that frame is like 7-8 pounds. How much is the Tour?
I've gone new school. but still riding haro!

You got me actually....that was what i wanted to do tongue
Nice!

Actually this frame is here, home..
Though Victor's (the seller) images were nicely taken and i don't have a camera that good (you can check my other bikes' pictures...which they suck lol!)

I'll need a more accurate scales.
Monday morning i'll go to the LBS with a Tour frame and the Canadian Beast. I'll let you know.
Compared to the 1998 Blammo frame it's kinda lighter though.
Tour should be around 7lbs....but anyway, i'm going to find out big_smile

Yeah, K2 DMC Pro is an awesome bike of the late 90's!!!
Should be included in my list....though i never came across a single one and there're not many parts from K2 to support it.
It's heavy enough, isn't it?

Yes Sir, that list never ends! Every month we came up with another F/F that needs to be built...!
By the way, here's nice!
Weather is a bit too hot sometimes, i'm not complaining though, it could be worse wink

I'll hook up some pics of the forks soon. I'll let them go cheap. You need them for the Schwinn. I have no need for them so I'll set you up with a good deal if interested!

Again, AWESOME bike!

Yes, i will big_smile
I haven't done anything yet....i need to finish up my GTs first.
Another problem in the way is that there's no parts available and they are hard to find.

Btw, I WISH i had that Hydramatic of yours, i would transfer all the parts from it on the Beast..

I am going to be building up a canadian beast frame. Would you go with 2 or 4 piece bars? I have reagle beagles or black Mirra 4 piece. I believe Osato rode Mirra bars in 2000.

That's nice.
Post up some pics when you're done wink I'd like to see it.

2pc Bars?
No, except that they are not era correct(for me bars is a first priority on these midschool beauties), i don't like 2pc bars at all tongue
4pc ALL THE WAY!!

Not sure about Dave Osato, but Jay Miron was riding Powerlite 4pc bars, black in color.
I was ready to buy a set of those bars and powder them black..then a friend of mine told me that still got his, so i rode them for a while and changed my mind lol

These are the bars i've decided to go with:

Schwinn XS freestyle 4pc bars
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/2180/schwinnbars.jpg

http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/1271/schwinnxsbars.jpg

Color should match the rest of the bike...i can't wait to have them here.

Yeah, that was a tough frame for flatland..nothing like the new ones out there.
Does a heavy flatland frame affect flatland tricks..? I recon it does...but how much? lol

Re: 2000 Schwinn Canadian Beast Jay Miron

Never tried Powerlite..not good?

I am comfortable with the Mirra bars, I do wish they were a little bigger. I might keep looking for something else on Ebay or something.

Speaking of Ebay, that is where I found the frame I am buying. The auction ended, and then I got an email from the seller asking if I still want to buy it. Does this sound legit? Also, is there anyway to tell from looking at the photos if I am getting the real thing. The combination of gyro tabs and the shape of the rear brake cable holder make me think it is the real deal.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You would'nt believe it, but I swear the bike shop in town has those exact XS bars!!!

Thats how out of date our bike shop is, when they think mid school stuff is new. I just remembered that they have those bars....dang, maybe I should pick them up. Let me know how you like yours.

Powerlite 4pc bars are good, but after riding them for a while on my friend's bike they started feel kinda low to me (i'm used to Mirra bars, GT Vert bars)
On the other hand, Mirra bars have very nice shape, i love it!! Though i would prefer a bit of a backsweep..they are too damn straight! lol

As for the XS bars, i'll let you know as soon as i get my hands on them wink

Yeah, i've seen the Canadian Beast that was on ebay (oakley & toyota decals)...it was up there for two months or something.
As it comes down to my knowledge, yes he has the real thing smile !
I've had a similar deal before....buying a frame right after the end of the auction...and it went smooth for me.
Good luck!!

Duke.

Re: 2000 Schwinn Canadian Beast Jay Miron

Got my Beast yesterday...can't wait to start building it up! Soon I'll be busting out 540 tailwhips and hitting everything at full speed!! Well....maybe not, but at least I''ll look good.

I still had the wrestling teams certified scale at my house, so I weighed the frame. 7 lbs even. Not that bad for as burly as it looks. I don't really care about weight that much.
