On the rear drop out, both sides, is stamped "Chromo". The serial under the bb is F312961 with a backwards C at the end?

Re: 1983 Diamondback Pacer 500
Nice that
It could originally have been a 2nd gen Silver Streak which was released towards the back end of 1983.
They were first stamped CRMO, then dropped and the same frame stamped 500 (pacer 500) and both frames used for later models
You can read more about it here http://www.os-db.net/silver%20streak%20-%201983.html

Here is what the bike looked like when I got it. The decals I have on it now are the same as when I got it if thats any indication on what model it really is. What I got out of that article was that the 83 models are really hard to differenciate and 83-84 was a weird time for the company. Since the parts I got it with were not correct for the bike, I really have no way to tell, unless someone here can shed some light on it?

The decals are not right for that type frameset, what you have on it is a mixture of Viper/Silver Streak (some of us know who were selling them on ebay). That frame was difficult because of later models that turned up using the same set. DB simply used old stock up.
Late 1983 - CRMO stamped frameset = 2nd Gen Silver Streak which was later replaced by the Pacer 500 (used same frameset stamped 500 or CRMO), this same frameset was also used for the Super Viper and later Viper.
So basically you have four model that used thr same frameset, but the F3 CRMO started out as the 2nd Gen Silver Streak

Re: 1983 Diamondback Pacer 500
Thanks, gets confusing but still really interesting. Now you got me thinking about my 84 Super Streak(listed in my bikes) The decals seem to be original due to the wear, but were they made in 84? The Serial starts with F4, but is it possible the bike was sold in 85 and stickered up as a super streak but actually a Viper? What other model shared the same frame as the Super Streak pre-85?

Confusing is only half the story. ![]()
Yours is the first style from 1984, and follows the format of the other bikes for that era using that type decal, though you have to remember that the frame dates are manufacturing dates of the frame. The Super Streak was not in the original 1984 brochure and for 1985 suggested the newer type decal.
Also that frame was not used for any other model, though it could have been later on but it's definately not a Viper, they had chainguard tabs and weren't full Chromoly.
