1982 Hutch XL24
1982 Hutch XL24
Pre-Serial, inside spot weld Frame and Fork.
Weekend SCORE: I found this bike at an old bike shop. The frame is emaculate (for its age), The chrome is almost perfect. The forks have a crack on the right dropout, but can be easily fixed. I'm looking forward to building this up.

You're a lucky dude my friend - well done. Keep us posted on the build...
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.

Re: 1982 Hutch XL24
I just submitted mine... Ok, the first proto types and semi production bikes were made by MCS. Mine actually has the MCS brace behind the BB and the fork bends are diffrent and the welds are night and day. Your welds are not MCS so I would go for maybe late 82 but I think '83 model... don't mind me. But Look on JJR's Hutch site you will see my 2 MCS made hutchs.. one chrome one black that was later done candy red. Did not want to come off like a donk, I have forgot 1/2 the Hutch stuff I use to know.

Re: 1982 Hutch XL24
Yea, most of the non-drilled forks on these have cracked drop out's.
That's why they are sooooo rare, most people back in the day threw them out, and replaced with the drilled forks.
Even with a cracked drop out, worth more than a drilled fork with no issues. ![]()
Nice combo!! I scored a complete like this, and it's NEVER going anywhere !!!!! I'll have a bigger coffin made to make it fit. ![]()
P.S. If you have the crack welded, don't grind down the weld on the inside for added strength.
