1981 Nomura

1981 Nomura

Stolen from a storage unit in South Bend, IN in 2000. Serial NR DG 036. Please get in touch if any of you see this serial! Thanks in advance!! Call Jeff at (574) 286-5808

I purchased this frame from a rider named Rob Robinson in 1981 at the age of 15 at Fairplane BMX, in Benton Harbor, MI. Rob was riding a purple anodized Nomura & my Dad and I talked to him after his moto. Rob mentioned he had another in his trailer, which we bought on the spot for $100.00 Per Wade's Production log: The serial number of the frame was/is: NR DG 036. This translates as: NR=Nomura Racing DG=Dave Guilkison (Wade's primary welder-he did ALL of the Cruiser frames & 80% of the other production frames BUILT by Nomura) 036=36th alloy 20" built. Wade's log confirms the original owner was a racer named Rob Robison who ended up being a Skyway factory rider in later years. The frame was originally a Blue annodized frame-not painted Blue and later 'buffed out' to a Polished finish. Wade's Log also mentions that the frame 'had an alignment issue' that was corrected. I raced this 81-85. My home track was Red Bud Track & Trail in Buchanan, MI. Red Bud no longer hosts BMX. I also raced Waterford & the International Huffy Pro in Pontiac, MI at the Silverdome on October 10, 1981. I still have a ticket stub with Harry Leary #2, Tim Judge #2, Stu Thomsen & Clint Miller's signatures! Skip forward to 1989, I had stripped the frame of parts & transferred them to a mongoose. I intended on buffing out the frame, but the frame moved across the country with me a half dozen times before I got serious about refinishing the bike in 2000. Unfortuantley, the frame was stolen from a storage facility, "All-Secure Storage" in South Bend, IN that year. I'm still not over it!! If any of you come across NR DG 036, please get in touch. I'd buy it back. Building that bike with my father, a racing enthusiast & racer (grass drag snomobile & outboard runabout) was the glue to a strained father-son relationship, which made losing the frame that much harder. Enjoy the pic & again, if this shows up in our community, please get in touch!! Jeff (574) 286-5808 PS: Big thanks to Bob M. for helping me track down this info!!!

Re: 1981 Nomura

Who ever stole it might not even know what they stole. That makes it so much harder to take. I had most of my much loved bikes stolen in my younger days. B@#ards.

Re: 1981 Nomura

Awesome bike.  Good luck finding it!
I think we should form a support group for us BMX'ers who have lost our prized possesions!
My 81 Powerlite........stolen from the bowling alley (chain lock cut).
My 83 National Pro........stolen from my garage while at school.
Still stings!

Exactly. I f'ng hate thieves! That's a pretty heartwrenching story man. I hope the Nomura I just bought doesnt match those numbers, but if they do, I'll call you!
