1979 GT Gary Turner

1979 Gary Turner/GT

This was my friend's bike back in 1979/1980. Not sure of the date. He remembers it coming with Gary Turner stickers. He said when the new GTs came out, he wrote to GT, asking for the new stickers. He said Gary Turner sent him a personal letter with the stickers. I argued that this was a GT and he may have been thinking about another bike he had, but he said he only had one GT. So, not sure. I know I owned the Thruster frame sitting in the background in the spring of 1980 and got it from him. (See my other bikes for a pic. of it when I owned it.) So how old is this? Not sure. Cool bike though. Dig the Phil spider. He custom-made the lightning bolt sticker on the Hot Plate. "I couldn't afford the Haro plates, so I bought the cheaper Hot Plate and made the sticker from contact paper," he said. He was always doing stuff like that.

Re: 1979 GT Gary Turner

That's it for pic. That pic is from 1980 and all that is left. Wish there were more. Wish the bike was still around to take more.

Re: 1979 GT Gary Turner

I wonder how much a bike like that with Gary Turner stickers would be worth...........lol

I'm on the hunt for a 70's or 80's 24" cruiser. Brand and condition don't matter.

Nope. That photo is from 1979 or 1980. It's loooooong gone.

Re: 1979 GT Gary Turner

Hi, is there a model for that frame (Mach 1 ?)  I believe I have a frame just like this one, but not sure.

Re: 1979 GT Gary Turner

Just a plain early GT. Probably a pro size, if they even had multiple "large" sizes then. Waaay before they had model names like Mach 1.

Re: 1979 GT Gary Turner

That bike is so awesome.  I always hated one piece cranks 'cause I weighed about 60lbs back in the day!  But that Phil Wood spider makes those cranks look so choice.  I don't think GT's came with the American BB until sometime in 1980.  I can't be sure without referencing my BMXA collection.

Sweet bike!

Not to be a douche, but why is this here? Unidentifiable, not the owner, and unverified info. Love this site, just tired of seeing submissions that aren't copasetic with the basic guidelines.
