Restoring 3-pc GT Power Series Cranks

After doing these a few times, I think I'm able to share some info with the rest of you guys to make it easier on you and for you to see that even the ugliest crank arms have hope. big_smile

So Here are some pics of the crank arms as I found them.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/acuzerfdw/3-pc%20cranks/DSCF0345.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/acuzerfdw/3-pc%20cranks/IMG_0683.jpg

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/acuzerfdw/3-pc%20cranks/DSCF0346.jpg

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/acuzerfdw/3-pc%20cranks/IMG_0663.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/acuzerfdw/3-pc%20cranks/IMG_0664.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/acuzerfdw/3-pc%20cranks/IMG_0666.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/acuzerfdw/3-pc%20cranks/IMG_0669.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/acuzerfdw/3-pc%20cranks/IMG_0677.jpg

So, because of the deep marks on these arms, I started with a very course sandpaper to knock those down as much as possible. I used 60 Grit sandpaper to start and it quickly began removing most of the deep marks on the arms.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/acuzerfdw/3-pc%20cranks/DSCF0302.jpg

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/acuzerfdw/3-pc%20cranks/DSCF0327.jpg

After I got all the deep marks out, I used 120 Grit paper to start smoothing the arms out. This grit helps get the little remains out without grating the rest of the arms that are already good.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/acuzerfdw/3-pc%20cranks/DSCF0304.jpg

After I got everything out, I switched to 220 Grit paper to smooth everything out.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/acuzerfdw/3-pc%20cranks/DSCF0026.jpg

I then used FINE steel wool to get the hairline scratches from the sandpaper out. After it was all done, I used the stencils I got from UltraHIVE on here and painted the logos back on like they originally were. They are now ready to go back on my bikes!

Hope this helps you out if you decide to take on the task to restore your old Power Series cranks, or any other cranks for that matter.
