1978  Diamond Back

Older Diamond Back racer

Bought it off e-bay as a frame/fork only. Built it up for my son to race. Fun bike and a great head turner at the track. Serial number located under bottom bracket and no other markings anywhere. May be a prototype frame.

Re: 1978 Diamond Back

Very nice DB, not a prototype though.  You need to measure the top tube and go to this website and see which model it is

Re: 1978 Diamond Back

Actually, Mark on that website told me it may be after we got through measuring it all up.  He was at a loss for the strange serial number on the bottom of the bottom bracket.

Thanks

Been nearly a year fella, you certainly have a rare beast there, one hole (if I recall) under the box section and no serial on the rear dropout. It could be that your frameset was one one the very first Koizumi models after the MX in very late 78 or early 79 when manufacturing was shifted to Japan. The omitence of the serial and the number still being on the BB would suggest pre koizumi stamping, proto-type or one that slipped through the net.

All the same, very nice indeed, you've done an excellent job on that. smile

Mark

Re: 1978 Diamond Back

This is such a funny hobby.  I have spent all this money building these bikes only to tear them down with new parts to give them a different look.  What am I suppose to do with all these bikes??  I do want to open a BMX shop and cater to people who love the sport.  I guess I could just hang these all over the shop.  I do have three boys who race most of these bikes on occasion, but they all want the NEW modern racers, which I do not blame them.  For now, they look like BMX art in my home.  Yes, they do stay inside my home on display until one of the boys wants to ride it around or take it to the track.  At least they are still running!!!  I am putting together a website called "BMX-spin". It is in the works right now, so when it is up and running, I 'll let all know!!

Ride on!!
