Your worst/dumbest purchase

The one that leaves you shaking your head at yourself...
Mine is easy. Complete knee-jerk reaction when I got outbid last minute on a pair of peregrines.
“Araya 48s very nice!!”  neutral
They came stuffed in a box with the axles poking through. Sovos hubs(I think I knew that), a decent dinger/hop in the back. It was all so wrong, I didn’t even bother complaining. Stupid and totally my fault. I think they’re worth about $8.
:roll-eyes
I’m very new at this stuff. It was (I hope) a lesson learned.

Re: Your worst/dumbest purchase

I bought white Tioga Comp III's once. WTF was I thinking? Never even used them, they literally disintegrated on a hook in my garage for decades...

The best insult ever and, I say it often is, "Who is this clown?" because, 1. You're calling them a clown 2. You're saying they're not even a well known clown.

I bought some, let's just say "really vintage" pair of GT skinwalls here some years ago. Basically I paid money for a boxed dust! That shite went straight to trash. I think I paid $30 or something hmm

I don't do carpet queens.  all my bikes even the OS are riders. if you don't ride them why own the tires? way cheaper to blow up a magazine add of them. frame it hang it on the wall ass art.
this was the bike.

Investment I guess for someone who wants them for a carpet queen in the future. They looked great though!

Re: Your worst/dumbest purchase

Every time you make a purchase from harbor freight it’s the worst purchase ever. They should have a big sign that says one time use only! Plastic ratchets, $3.99 multimeters, and 6.99 die grinders hahaha! I mean come on!

Re: Your worst/dumbest purchase

An incomplete Huffy monoshock frame. By the time I even got it home I’m thinking, “ what am I going to do with this boat anchor?”  It sat in the same spot for about 6 months, and then I sold it back to the guy I bought it from. Didn’t lose out on the deal, but was definitely a dumb purchase on my end.

Re: Your worst/dumbest purchase

Old school bikes that are to fragile or too expensive to actually ride.  Don't get me wrong, they are indeed super cool, however they just sit around and collect dust and are only relevant to those folks over 45 years old.  There, I said it.

Re: Your worst/dumbest purchase

I was searching for a chrome late 90's Schwinn Predator to be a gift for a life long friend (same bike he rode back in the day).  I found a Predator Comp locally and rushed put to buy it.  Threw it in my Jeep and was happy.  I got it home and we ent to ride it and discovered everything felt cramped.  Turns out Comp doesn't stand for Competition, it stands for Compact.  It would be great for a kid, not so great to replace the bike my buddy rode into High School with.  Still haven't found a good chrome Predator (of amy model) for him sad

Re: Your worst/dumbest purchase

Everytime I buy something I don’t need, with money I don’t have just to impress people I don’t even like.

But seriously, I purchased a pair of Diamond Back IRC Comp II tires for $160 of eBay.  They were so unuseable, they went directly into the trash.
