Oh that's the taped up NYC signature series. All joking aside, the rider pictured in the photo above, Mike "Hollywood" Bronchato rode for the schwinn team. He gave this frame to my good friend, who rides it now in the photo below. This bike was originally red like in the photo, then it was painted sky blue, then finally the green with clear coat pictured. Most of the parts are made by Snafu. The seat probably got tore up over time, and my friend just used a cheap & simple solution to the problem. Function over fashion am i rite? This bike is unique in that it doesn't feature the curved downtube like production models of this time had, and also where the seatstays and chainstays connect to the frame are unique. Just thought I'd share.
Edit: added picture of frame when painted blue.

whats with the tape on the spokes? add sound or something?
Great question! If you ever ruin a rim and have to lace a new one, before taking the old one off, you can tape the spokes up where they cross. That way if you're not familiar with wheel building, the lace pattern is saved for you. Then just put the new rim on, the lacing is already saved from the previous wheel and you don't need knowledge of lacing, or worry that you will lace it wrong. ![]()
Cheers,

Re: 2000 Schwinn prototype
This bike looks very similar to Jay Miron's first signature Macneil model...
I know Jay was always "working" (ie. fighting) with the Schwinn folks to make a bike that he ended up doing himself...I wonder if this is a precursor to that design?
Nice bike!

Another photo of the original color. This photo was taken from a local newspaper when my friend was on tour with the schwinn team. Same bike.
Here's another look at the original red. one hand no foot nose pick at chenga.

Mean Street frame had gussets at the front...
So, this might be a prototype for the next years Mean Street?

Re: 2000 Schwinn prototype
it very well could have been.... also the top tube, just behind the seat post is different on this protype. it has an angled end, where the mean street didn't.
