Thx ahead

Re: Thinking of buying a Fat Ripper 2018 PK Ripper

I first test rode Todds and a year or so later found a great deal on an un-used one on craigslist and i just bought another un-used one (craigs super deal). I have both colors now, last years and this
They ride great as a cruiser, very smooth, just make sure you keep the tire pressure up.
There was a crank issue which has been addressed on this years model - beefed up arms near spindle area and arms are now situated closer to the chain stays.
I personally wasnt comfortable with last years seat so i switched it for an old worn Brooks i had laying around - everyones rear end is a little different - you might be fine with the stock seat - i'm going to give it a go with my new one, havnt taken it on a long ride yet.
I love the color scheme on my 2017 - thats the reason i bought it

Re: Thinking of buying a Fat Ripper 2018 PK Ripper

I'm leaning toward an STR Quad 26. Not sure on the novelty of the fat bike. Can someone chime in on the 26 quad?

Re: Thinking of buying a Fat Ripper 2018 PK Ripper

Screw it, couldn't decide, so bought them both. I'll build the Fat One and put the STR away in the box. LOL. Still like to hear opinions on both from rider owners. also who is the SE guy on here?
Thx

Re: Thinking of buying a Fat Ripper 2018 PK Ripper

I think its the extra cushion of air that makes them such a smooth ride and i really dont notice extra drag when the pressure is correct

Re: Thinking of buying a Fat Ripper 2018 PK Ripper

The problem with the STR is the design...
When you ride it the front wheel is too close to the frame and your foot hits the tire when you turn. Many have complained about this.

Rode the STR.  Was a cool bike to cruise. The only gripe; I didn't like that the tip of my shoes were coming into contact with the front tire when the pedals were far forward while in a turn. Absolutely great bike for cruising though.

Re: Thinking of buying a Fat Ripper 2018 PK Ripper

To add more detail to the discussion, I'm 5'10 and a size 10 shoe and the 26" doesn't give me any issues with my foot getting too close to the front tire. Granted, that's about 20 miles worth of riding, but I haven't had an instance of rubbing. Now the 29" STR or Big Ripper, absolutely it can be an issue.

Re: Thinking of buying a Fat Ripper 2018 PK Ripper

I don't like that. Size 12 shoe. So that's the STR?
Amazon buy so pretty simple return.
I just want to bounce around on that Ripper anyway.
Looks like I'll want to change the tires on it.

Re: Thinking of buying a Fat Ripper 2018 PK Ripper

Just saw the comment about the 29. That does make sense. Looking at fork angle on the 26 though it may be an issue with big paws.

Re: Thinking of buying a Fat Ripper 2018 PK Ripper

It's a good sign lg1, shows our hobby with the Vintage ones is alive and well. Cool to see an old name take notice. I actually don't see too many for sale used. I don't think they make a lot of them relative to the bike market. The STR was a limited release.
All I know is I'm 6'1 205 now and want a bike with the BMX look and feel that fits my new size and doesn't break the bank. I have some old expensive little ones to look at. LOL
I'll mostly just beer cruise with it. May screw around and jump some stuff etc.
Hopefully that's what I'll get out of it.
Cheers

No such thing as a " limited release " when talking about SE bikes nowadays . They throw that term out all the time.  hmm

+1.   The only way yer foot will rub the front wheel on the 26, is if you pedal on yer heels.  Got rid of my 29er because it was a real issue.

Only 500 STR will be made.  Last year ever!  That's what the good folks at SE told me anyway.
