i was in the same position when i was building up my 95 ELF, i ended up going with Odyssey A Brakes, i read really good reviews on them and look badass, i paired them up with a Paul's Lever, and they work VERY well.

My shipping is going to stink from 9/20-9/27...as in ....it's not going to happen.  I'll have spots of no communication, but will mostly be available to discuss.

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

Is that a Clayborn CRX with cantis? I've only seen them with 990s. Very cool frame and love the color!

I've got a Clayborn 24" my wife rides. I've got v-brakes on it. I'll take some snaps of it & post it.

There were not many good choices for these kind of brakes during the 90`s . If your going period correct my choices are Dia Compe 985 and of course VG.http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af5/suicidepan/1994%20Standarf%20cruiser/DSCF2345_zpsfrkycq1n.jpghttp://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af5/suicidepan/DSCF5561_zpsnbjqdbwu.jpg

Dia Compe cantis are cheap and fit the bill.
The tektro/trp MTB cantis from the 90's do as well.
Personally, id run a set of Iconic DX brakes.

Now you are talking my language, early to mid 90's is my favourite time period for Bmx.
Cnc cantilever brakes and cranks are what I'm into.
Here are a couple of pics but I will try and post a few more a bit later.
Enjoy.  N.

Re: 90s canti, v, center pull. What are u runnin

I used a Suntour cam brake. This has none of the foot clearance problems of a cantilever with much better geometry. It has much less friction than any of the so called V brakes. Since your frame already has a cable housing stay built in, you want to use that feature in the brake as it is a significant advantage.

No matter what brake you use, if you want decent feel, you are going to have to install a brake bridge brace. The seat stay tube diameter is tiny on most frames. They have no torsional stiffness to resist the reaction forces from the brake arms.

Re: 90s canti, v, center pull. What are u runnin

+1 on the DX.  I really like Avid Single Digit 5 Vs too, but they came out in the 2000s I think.  I might put some cantis on one of my bikes down the road, but for a regular rider I just don't like the way the arms stick out the side of the frame, my shoes always get caught on them.

My friend gave me these and I put them on my Bontrager, kinda cool looking and they work great.  They're like a canti/V hybrid, never been able to figure out what brand they are though.
