Re: 1980 Robinson Decaled as VDC

Looks like your rear end is longer than this 85 Pro i found in the museum, only pic i could find of the non drive side to compare to your bike non drive side pic on a 1985 Pro,maybe that is why it has a gusset.

Good observation... the loop on mine appears to also be larger.

Re: 1980 Robinson Decaled as VDC

I agree with those observations as well.  I think, what you can say is it is not a normal '85 Robinson.  It seems highly unlikely that it is not looped into one of those entities (Robi, VDC, Profile, BB, BXC, etc)....but it's not one of their normal ones.  Until you know what it is, it is hard to say what it is not, except that it is not a standard version...

My shipping is going to stink from 9/20-9/27...as in ....it's not going to happen.  I'll have spots of no communication, but will mostly be available to discuss.

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

Here is what I have noticed the differences from Robinson.
1. The serial number sequence is different.
2. The tt is 19.5
3. The extra lower chainstay brace.
4. The rear is longer.
5. The loop bend is larger.
Thanks for all the input, hopefully someone can nail it.

Such an awesome bike.  Looks like a custom ride for a bigger rider.

The looptail Dale in the picture and the three sticktails here all have the seat tube piercing the top tube ala GT or VDC.
Has enough Robinson touches to make the likelihood of it being a one off for a team rider or a proto type for a model that never happened.

Very likely regarding a team rider/ prototype but the serial number still doesn't add up.

Very cool bike! That fork has a lot of VDC characteristics. Hope you get a positive ID.

Still searching for my missing bikes from BITD. 1979 Blue Max serial: CI9 221346 and 1977 Webco serial: 42667. Both were last seen at Spoke and Sport Bicycles in Spokane, WA around 1984. $600 reward if found!!
