That is cool... I would leave it as is, VDC decals and all... Maybe get rid of the "vintage" grease and grime, but man that is COOL!!! Nice find... big_smilebig_smilebig_smile

Re: 1980 Robinson Decaled as VDC

If that is a 1980 Robinson, it's missing something.

That's a great find of course....

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

Re: 1980 Robinson Decaled as VDC

Nice pick up ,seen it today.I am thinking vary early VDC made 84 Robi made by VDC.I don't see any other Robi's in the museum with that round chain stay gussett.First year with out the gusset up front.Ask this member.

Edit-could  be 85 i guess too,but usually first two digits is the month not year.i was just thinking maybe VDC made the early production model of that style frame.

Re: 1980 Robinson Decaled as VDC

So far as I'm aware, there's no connection between VDC and Robinson. That aside, it's a cool bike!! Just needs an era-correct seat and a clean-up, and it's good to go!!

Re: 1980 Robinson Decaled as VDC

You might think about dropping the forks out....sometimes there are clues in there.  You have 5 things defying consistency with the obvious answers.  Should be something cool in the end.  Heck, it's already something cool.

Ill do that tomorrow. Many differences versus an 85 Robby.

Re: 1980 Robinson Decaled as VDC

Ok,i just remembered,i was second inline to buy this bike before you picked it up today from first in line and i ruled out Robinson on the frame from the online sale pics when trying to figure out the frame. The seat tube is way more kicked back then Robi plus it has the chain stay gussett.
Here is a 84 and 85 Pro to compare, look at the seat tube angle

And 85
