1983 Malvern Star SuperMaX CrMo
1983 Malvern Star SuperMaX CrMo
NOS SuperMax CrMo. An Aussie classic.
This began as a project to re-create the bike I built for Christmas 1983 with NOS parts. It's taken a long time, but it's finally complete, and perfectly accurate down to the internal parts.
SuperMax CrMo frame (re-chromed with NOS stickers).
NOS Tange TRX forks (original stickers).
NOS Redline V bars. NOS Oakley grips.
NOS Shimano Tourney brakes.
NOS SR 'Aerox-M' neck.
Original pad-set (the only parts that remain of the original bike).
NOS Kashimax Aero seat.
NOS SR Laprade 1-piece seat post.
Alloy seat post clamp.
NOS Shimano DX 9/16 pedals.
NOS Takagi Tourney 3-piece crank. KHC chain.
NOS Tioga MX-2 Head Set.
NOS Tioga BB Set.
NOS Sumo 20x1.75 wheels. KT hubs.
Cheng Shin re-pro Comp III tyres.

That looks fantastic mate. Bet it looks even better up close…
You can be proud of the job you have done there ,,I seen the frame before you got it so I know the work you put into it and the effort tracking down every part as per your bike had back in the day couldn't have been easy .
Have you taken it for a ride yet? Even on the carpet LOL you can tell us.
All in all a stunning result worth the work you put into it .....WELL DONE

Hey Mate, you got there.![]()
Looks great, it really does.
Is that the frame you picked up on e-bay last year?
We will have to get our bikes together at a show one day.
Cheers

Re: 1983 Malvern Star SuperMaX CrMo
Hey Gooser.. yep, that's the frame I got on eBay last year.. when it arrived it was quite scratched.. it looked good in the pics, but I think someone cleaned it with steel wool.. so I had to have it re-chromed. Luckily, Neil had a set of NOS stickers.
Are there any BMX shows in Aus? I'd like to take my bike along..
I'm now thinking of building another SuperMax CrMo with other parts I've accumulated.. I have that yellow frame I bought on eBay (original stickers), plus another set of used Tange TRX forks.. plus some black Tuff IIs and a black Kashimax seat...

Would I have to buy an extra seat on the plane for the bike?
Thanks for the tip-off..
