My current build thread...

OK, so I have decided that I just need one thread for all of my builds, so I'm not cluttering up the museum with a new build thread every other day... (a clean workplace is a safe workplace) big_smilebig_smilebig_smile  So, from now on whenever I build, update, customize or create something it will be posted here... Nice and easy for EVERYONE... big_smilebig_smilebig_smile  That way if you want to know what I've been working on (not that anyone really cares), you'll know where to go... lollollol  Feel free to post here as well, I like seeing what everyone is up to... So, I guess this is kind of like my personal thread page...

Here's my latest build...

1994 Robinson SST... I'll add details in a while, here's some pix for now...

Awesome!!! You must shift the frame pad forward though so you can see that cool Juda Priest inspired BMX Museum decal!

I tried it already, just looks stupid with the pad that far forward... I might cut the decal and put the "museum" on the other side... I was also thinking about not using the Robinson decals and using the LARGE Priest style stickers on the down tube as well... Hmmmmm...

Re: My current build thread...

I finally got around to opening a box of parts that I traded a frameset to my buddy "bRADdlphns" for, who is aware of the Robinson build, and as an added freebie that was not part of our deal I find this... I'll be putting it on the Robi tomorrow...

Re: My current build thread...

So another day goes by, and I worked on bikes ALL day!!! big_smilebig_smilebig_smile  It's the thing that makes me most happy, creating new looks, building cool stuff from crap, refinishing and refurbishing old beat up parts, customizing EVERY part that I can and finally, getting to ride a "new" bike for the first time... I changed the sprocket on the Robinson and did a few other things to her to spice her up a bit AND I started another build that is coming along nicely... Here's the pix...

I still have a couple of things to do to her, but for the most part, the Robinson is finished... I'm going to swap out the seat that's currently on my '85 Free Agent Pro for the one on the Robi, and I have a few decal issues to figure out... OK, on to the next... big_smilebig_smilebig_smile

Re: My current build thread...

So I bought a cruiser f/f from "Dcbmx1" a couple of weeks ago and the plan was to wait 'til I got ALL the parts that I had in mind for the bike before I started assembling it...

http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/61851/image57e5c55744_blowup581d488405.jpg

The seat was the first thing that needed to be attended to... It was a mess, the suede was matted and sticky in a couple of spots, the "chrome" plating on the bottom parts of the seat was peeled most of the way off and the post was BENT!!! I don't know if any of you have tried to straighten a 27.2 mm alloy post, but it ain't easy... The color scheme is going to be red and dark blue, so I cleaned the suede parts of the seat and dyed them blue and I sanded the parts where the chrome peeled off and painted those red... I got the post pretty straight, not perfect, but good enough for me...

Re: My current build thread...

I just couldn't help myself, I started putting the Redline Proline Team 24 together... I think the color choices were cool for this one... Here's what I've got so far...

2002 Redline Proline Team 24 f/f (frame is 7005 alum, fork is 4130 cr-mo), stem, seat, post and clamp
Early 2000 Tektro brakes
180mm Cr-Mo 3 pc. crankset w/sealed bb (was told the cranks are Schwinn XS, but I don't think so)
Tuf Neck knock-off copy power disc
Suntour 130 bcd 40t alloy chain ring
Primo Super Tenderizer pedals
KMC chain
Red Alex hoops laced to Schwinn XS Six Shooter hubs w/ ACS Claws 13t freewheel
Intense tires

****note : the bars that I specifically bought for this build have not arrived yet and need to be refinished when they do, so all bars pictured until then are just temporary...****

I got the wheels mounted and the seat and cranks and pedals installed... big_smilebig_smilebig_smile

Alrighty boys and girls, here we go... I have changed the seat on the Robinson, and I must say it looks WAAAAYYYY better with this Bulletproof BMX Components seat on it... The VERY last thing I need are some Robinson downtube decals for the frame and it will be done... Here's the pix...

Here's a couple of pix of the Team 24... The bars are temporary and I have an idea for the chain that will take us back to 1985, but we'll all have to wait for that to be revealed later today... Well, I have about 16 bikes or so... I have sold and traded a lot of them... I really don't have room for more than 20 at a time... So, if I want to keep building bikes, I have to sell or trade bikes... Building these bikes and customizing them is what I like to do most... I ride almost every day, whether it be just to the store, or an all day cruise, I try to ride as much as possible, but when there are bikes to be built, I'd rather do that... I have just started with the 24" bikes... Got my first one in August and now I have about 6 of them... big_smilebig_smilebig_smile  Here's a quick pic of the bike room... There is only 1 24" in there, I have 5 more in storage down stairs...

http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/61851/100_67005820c8bb83.jpg

I got a few more builds coming up, so it's almost time to make some room... big_smilebig_smilebig_smilebig_smilebig_smilebig_smilebig_smile

Hey Al, THANXXX MAN!!! They are pretty cool... Member "rcsnipe2000" sells them here on the museum... I originally got them because I have the old vinyl "Coke is it" pads and I was going to display them together, but they just looked too good on the Robinson... I still owe you a beer brother!!!

Re: My current build thread...

OK, the Redline is just about finished... The brake cable has been installed and I put a temporary chain on it for now... The chain will be replaced soon with a KMC that I have waiting for it...

The bars have arrived from "Frank250"... The chrome is shot and they need refinished, but I think they will look cool on this bike after I refinish them...

Looking good!! I like cruisers, they are much more comfortable to ride in my older age than a 20", but I do like the stance of a 20" BMX bike better.
