1978 Race Inc. RA-7

A very strange bird, even for Bastain.

Here is one for the books.  An RA-7 frame, with OG decals and finish, an FMF gusset hole, SE d/o's and no serial no's.  At least not a number where we normally would find one.  I did find a "stamped" number on the BB, which sort of reads "28IU" but the "I" and "U" do not look like a typical letter, more like another language or emblem.  I have seen Race Inc. Jr.'s (RA-8) with the FMF hole but never an RA-7.  Combined with the fact that this has a one peice floval tube and SE drop outs, makes this one a 100% bonafied "Bill Bastain Bastard". I purchased this a year or two ago from ColoradoCoupe here on the museum.  One possibility is that this could have been one of the first, next gen frames in 1978 right before serial numbers started getting stamped on the drop outs.

Very nice, Ron.  Another one for the archives!  I think you have the right idea, that this is possibly a '77 / '78 crossover....with the FMF gusset!  Unreal!  wink
