Damn Gary, Why are you letting people post these poor exuses for BMX bikes on your site? Someone might actually think NEXT actually builds nice bikes! That would be a real shame!!!

Whoa, easy brother! This site isn't called the-best-bikes-money-could-buy-museum.com.
Merriam-Webster defines a museum as "an institution devoted to the procurement, care, study, and display of objects of lasting interest OR value". I wonder how many kids would have never learned how to ride a bike if it weren't for companies like Next or even Huffy? My first bike was a Huffy. And I have to be honest. It WAS a piece of junk. But I'll tell you one thing . . . that bike made me appreciate the GT Performer I got for Christmas when I was 13. If you've never had to deal with disappointment, you'll never know how good you've actually got it! So RealFox, if it gets you and your boyfriend riding, run with it!

It's not that bad of a bike. I can say one thing, it is the best one if its kind cause RealFox owns it, well..., his BF does.

Uhm..., o-k..., Raven, lol.
Thanks, Chris, I was poor as a kid, well, not poor-poor, but I never had a *brand-new* GT, Dyno, Diamondback(well, cept one) when I was young. Also, any bike I did get of good brand/quality was earned though A LOT of hard work. I can afford these things now because I actually have some cash now.

Any bike built by the Pacific bicycle company or any bike sold at K-mart, Target, Wal-mart, should not be aloud in the Museum..Those bikes are making this site the laughing stock of the BMX world!
The name of this site is BMXMUSEUM.com, not BMXJUNKMUSEUM.com

Re: 2005 Next Chaos
I kind of agree with both sides.
In one way, yes, it is a bmx bike... and there are no limits (yet) as to what gets into the museum... and why not 'document', if you will, the lower end bikes as well as any other bikes....right?
On the other hand.... it's safe to say that no one comes here to check out bikes like this. And I have to agree, it's quality that makes this site quality!

Re: 2005 Next Chaos
just because it is in the museum, doesn't mean you have to go look at it. i can't stand the department store bikes myself, but they are bmx bikes and have a place in the history and future of this crazy thing we are mixed up in.
ya know, Team Murray was a department store bike back in the day (my first bmx bike) and some are desireable now, mostly for sentamental value (actually isn't that the case on all the os bikes?)

I totally agree with that. But . . .

I would rather have a Huffy (a VERY old one) from a collectors stand point than a brand new Next. Huffy has a much bigger impact on the history of BMX than Next. Sorry RealFox. I still mean what I said about if it gets you and your boyfriend riding then do it. But that's outside of the museum.
And amen and hallelujah to PJC. If you don't like it DON'T LOOK AT IT!!! I posted a bike and no one's commented on it. But I didn't build it for anyone else. I built it for ME.
I like the age requirement idea. But then some of the bikes being built today would be left out. I think there should definitely be some sort of screening process for submitted bikes.

Re: 2005 Next Chaos
I think that there should be a Museum for the vintage bikes and just a thread for the other stuff...
Vintage meaning early 90's and older BMX bikes that are ridable or just Frame and forks. And if we have to have the Mountain bikes on here, do a thread.
Don't worry... this will only hurt a little!

Re: 2005 Next Chaos
there is a screening process, if Gary wants it in the museum he places it there. I think every one is over thinking this whole thing. its all about bikes. i don't care for Hutch but that doesn't mean that i don't think they should not be on the site. Next is having an effect on bmx right now. it is a less expensive way for todays kids to get their feet wet with the sport of bmx. if they like it, they end up moving up to a better quality bike. i think there will always be a place for the department store bike for the kids and their parents who can't afford a factory Redline, FBM, or S&M. i hate department store bikes, for me, but many kids will ride those bikes and have them without any problems for years because they don't ride them hard like we do. if they get to that point in their riding, they end up upgrading.

Re: 2005 Next Chaos
But the whole point here is that some of us don't think that the Department store bikes belong in the museum cause they are all junk. I would never buy my kid a junk bike if he/she wanted to start racing. They are junk and always be junk.. and like I said above there is no place for junk in the museum. Plus when I think museum I think OLD not NEW.

Re: 2005 Next Chaos
my thoughts...
i love the fact that we have all bmx's here because i'm an "information" guy. this site is an awsome resource for info. examples of where the industry has been, where it is going. it's just plain great.
now the name museum does imply a certain level of quality. they don't hang any old painting in world class art museums. so i do understand the argument, but i don't care what other bmx sites, and thier members think. i have accounts at several forums, but i'm here all the time, and i'm not going to leave because there is a Next on the site.

Re: 2005 Next Chaos
As much as I personally agree with the fact that this bike is not museum - worthy
I have to make the following points:
Scott B. (SE Racing) I believe started on a (Team) Murray
Stompin Stu rode Huffy for a bit ( they probably paid good )
Huffy is the worst bike ever - but we all owned one, at least once in our lives.
There are street bikes, road bikes, freak bikes, bare frames, one-offs, incomplete bikes, all in the museum right now. In order to support this - I must view this site not only as a museum - but more of an online reference guide for bicycles.
No, hell no I'll never own a NEXT, or a pacific, or any of those. They all suck. If I get one I'll ghost ride it into the lake. But they are 'bmx' bicycles and therefore belong in the museum.
As much as I hate to say it.

Huffy is not the worst ever. Murray is, lol. Though..., Roadmaster is pretty bad too. ![]()
Next sucks, we all know this, but one thing I gotta say, Next has some good designs, even though they are made of crappy material, they still have good designs, well... some do anyway.

Re: 2005 Next Chaos
i agree fox, but dont forget kent. i have said it before though, you remember the old huffy and murray, they had total crap parts on them. i just took apart a mongoose k.o, and it crazy what parts they put on the new dept store bikes. 3 piece cranks, double pull brake levers, 48 spoke rims with double walls. the quality of the low end bikes have inproved considerably. i have nothing against them.
when i see a mongoose at walmart, i try and picture the metal being used to make something more useful, like a frying pan, or maybe some clothes hangers...oh well...its out of my hands.

Re: 2005 Next Chaos
least murray actually had a serious race and freestyle team.
I think the freaking mountain bikes and city bikes need to take a hike though.
Why aren't huffy sigmas, street machines, murry track cert, murray track 15, 25, 35 etc, wester flyer cobras etc, in the museum? because nobody who was serious about bmx wanted them.
they weren't designed for the serious bmxer they were marketed for kids as something to cruise around on.
(i did love my cobra though)

And thats what I dig about this site. Yes you dont hang just any old painting that ya moms made when she was all stoned out around the time of your conception. But if the museum was big enough, as in the space of some really big ass hard drives, you can!!.... show some rajulio hector de la hondo stuff.
Im saying. how is the industry to grow unless we can have some failures to look at. And instead of pretending thay didnt happen why not learn from there existance. I learned that i cannot grind on a wooden ledge. at the time i thought the wood would be slick to move me forward faster, but i learned out the the horrible desision that it has far too much give to take the pressure of the pegs apex. Now seeing that.. displaying the crappy bikes made and discussing them helps us all learn. (future designers/builders/riders.) what we can look for and expect out of what we see, know, and of course feel as we ride.
P.s. the fusion model is suprisingly made with clean welds. other than that garbage.
take the frame toss the rest.
(no.! i dont work for next)

Re: 2005 Next Chaos
Gary screens all the bikes that go into the museum. If he wants it in, it's in. It's his site with an open invitation to us to become part of a community. You don't have to look at every single bike in the museum. Use the search function. I've never looked at a bike I didn't want to.
If having bikes that Gary wants in the museum makes this site the laughing stock of the BMX community, I don't give a crap. I've enjoyed every second of being a member here and have learned more and got more advice/leads/suggesstions than I could have ever imagined. I've posted a Huffy, and plan on posting another Huffy and a Team Murray. Those bike were part of my BMX history, junk bike or not.

if there weren't " crappy bikes" in the museum than what are you gonna do in 10 years when you "score a sweet deal" at a garage sale? you'll have no way of knowing that you just bought a junk bike unless you have something to reference to.
i'm wanting a basic bikes, small town hick or big city bastard! tell me you have one you wanna get rid of!!!

Re: 2005 Next Chaos
I wonder if in twenty more years these bikes will be worth more than what they sell for on Craigslist which is 5-15 dollars used...I will admit this one looks decent but it is never going to be a classic bmx. I can see Gary's point in letting these in because you need the bottom of the pile to compare to the top.. Huffy and Murray Bikes still don't bring much money either but some folks collect them due to the fact poor kids rode the heck out of them and not many survived the devastation.
Anyhow maybe one day next will make high quality race parts you never know......Obviously the kids now are riding these but not racing these, it maybe time to branch off the museum into sections? The population here seems to consist of mainly racers...I think we would all agree this bike wouldn't be safe to even take the gate....
