1981 Cook Bros. Racing

Display Kit

This is my 1981 Cook Bros display kit. It was my '08 Vintagebmx/Rockford entry, and received 1st place in the "Best 80's" category. It took 30 months to complete, and countless hours hunting down each individual part in either pristine or NOS condition. In the end, the foam insert proved to be the most challenging part of the project. Precision cutting of the foam is extremely difficult, as I have learned, but the precise cuts are necessary to achieve the results worthy of the parts they now hold. I would like to offer special thanks to "Leparis" for seeing this through with me until the end, thank you! Claude

Re: 1981 Cook Bros. Racing

Very nice....INDEED.

Not a rider I take it- it would be a bugger to put that thing together & pull it down again everytime you want to take it for burn......LOL

A top entry, worthy of the prizes achieved.

This is truly a historic monument. And just so everyone here knows...The pictures don't do it justice. Congrats on the Rockford win. You earned it!

Phenomenal job on presentation.  What girl would not mind sitting in the back seat to that?

Re: 1981 Cook Bros. Racing

well done for collecting such a beautiful kit big_smile

but i always feel its a shame when these great bikes and kit arent being used and enjoyed like they were designed for.. sad

bit like bringing your car to a show on a trailer.. it was built to be driven

Re: 1981 Cook Bros. Racing

Ohh, wow. I totally assumed when I saw the pic that the case was something cook handed out to good dealers back in the day and you had one.

Amazing. I forgot about the cook cranks, they were super spiffy.

GREAT JOB!

Seriously considering a torker/redline midlife crisis project ^_^

Re: 1981 Cook Bros. Racing

Amazing ......Absolutly OUTSTANDING job.
Back in 77-78  i remember reading BMX action staying up late dreaming of of having that CBR cardborad display with the frame forks ect. I wanted that thing more than anything on the planet.
Thanx for the memories  & my bottom backet setup.

Re: 1981 Cook Bros. Racing

Update:

I would now say the kit is exactly how I want it to be. Since I originally posted this setup I've found an NOS '81 frame, (the one in the kit pictured is mint with super light washer marks), and I just found a mint set of 1st generation Dog Bones to replace the 2nd generations that are in the kit with blue spider. I will try and do an updated picture soon, but heres pictures of the two "new" items that will be swapped with the old pieces,
