1992 Hawk F-20 L

"The Pawn Shop Hawk". I found this sitting outside a pawn shop. It was chained up by the side of the road with other bikes, toolboxes and garden equipment. It had been siting there for a year and a half before I rescued it last week. Everyday, rain or shine it was dragged outside with all the other stuff for sale, and every night it was dragged back inside. At first I thought it was the ugliest thing I had ever seen, because of the square tubing. I thought it was some sort of Wal-Goose. I had no idea what a Hawk bike was until my son did a Google search. The bike was in the back of my car a short time later. It had some rusty bolts, a hideous seat, and cheapo tires, but you could see that it was born to race. I took it home, and dis-mantled it very carefully. The crank arms, chain and non-plated bolts were put in an oxy bath. The frame, fork and everything else received a good scrubbing with Dawn dish detergent and hot water. The Renthal aluminum bars and D/K stem received some Mother's polish. I changed the seat to a blue Viscount Dyna because the blue matched the original Hawk decals perfectly. I installed some black Comp III style tires because those were still around when this bike was assembled in 1992 or so I am assuming. I also changed the grips to blue and the brake cable housing to white.  The last thing I changed, was to move the front wheel to the rear slots in the dual drop out forks as the front position looked too "chopperish" to me. She rides like a dream with the 45-15 gearing and 165 MM crank arms.

Cool find, good to see another one with early forks.  It looks to be in great condition, hard to find them without dents.

Still livin the dream.

Re: 1992 Hawk F-20 L

Thanks guys!! It has one tiny ding on the right side of the top tube. I hid it with a zip tie holding the brake cable. I have to wonder if this bike was ever raced,  or was it just ridden around sparingly?

El Paso is known as the Sun City, so we mostly see a whole lot of sun. We only get about 8" of total rainfall in one year. The ano on the sprocket is faded from being out in the sun.

Re: 1992 Hawk F-20 L

I hear only 30 set of Forks were made  for 350-400 Hawk bikes  . Rare ?
