Re: 1993 Tanjae Pro Class XL Austalian
As posted in Maccas thread of the same brand:
"Jason & Tanya Spence owned the company when it started, hence how the name came about - Tanya/Jason TAN/JAE... They were based in Rockhampton & the bikes (when cro-mo frames) were made by Dwayne Prasser out of the Maxxim camp.... Tanjae also went into the aluminium frames near the end of Jason & Tanya's run with the business.... I had the first Tanjae on the market (other than Jason's prototype) (Picture above of my bike - 1993 Model)... I rode for them in at the start of the company ('93), just help get the name out there.... I was just an average rider, but I had the gift of the gab in helping push the name out there & always kept my bikes in tip top order, hence the bike always looked the goods for the company... Factory colours where Blue & Muskie pink. A young bloke by the name of Ben (cant remember his last name) was the Factory rider locally for them when they went to the Alloy frames... "

Sorry mate, it went a long time ago... I had that at the end of '92 (But it was a '93 Model) & it was sold at the end of the '93 Racing Season... I parted ways with Tanjae at the end of '93 & bought myself a '94 Model Auburn CR20RX Works Link XL (the new shape bend after seat mast, also it was the first one of the new shape in Australia) that I used for the '94 & most of the '95 Race Seasons.....

Jinxed.
You were spot on on the details of the frame. My Name is Jason Spence and I designed the frame. We manufactured the frame in 5 different sizes, and I still have a baby double cross in the shed. The additional double cross bars were designed to stiffen the rear end of the frame giving faster acceleration. When we designed the first Aluminium frame, we changed the design to have a wishbone rear. The prototype aluminium frame was made from 7000 series alloy. It was too ridged and cracked under extream racing conditions. We made the retail version out of 6000 series and heat treated the entire frame. At the time evrybody wanted to buy an aluminium frame, however the Double cross crom-molly frame always out performed it. We sold the business just before the introduction of the imported aluminium frames. Lucky timing as the price of quality frames droped and the new owner of Tanjae could not produce frames cost effectivly.
During the Tanjae time I recieved two Australian design awards. One was for the Tanjae Bar end plugs. One of our pro riders was a Machinest. He had made one set for himself. I loved them. We designed a set of our own, anodised them in 6 colours and they become our best seller ever. The second was the adjustable cantilever brake mounts. Once again I borrowed the idea from the bicycle engineer at Technocomps. He was jiging our frames under contract. The pro frame and the superlight had the same measurments. Only the tube thickness was different. The sliding mounts allowed for interchanging 20X1.75 and 20X1 1/38 rims.
If you have any questions, simply ask. I have many Photos and will add the to the muesem. Thanks Jinxed for helping me remember....
