1978 GJS

True survivor. Original owner GJS race prepped bike.

I'm the original owner of this bike.
Cycle Pro forks.
Takagi Chromoly cranks with KKT pedals. Sugino sprocket. D.I.D. chain.
Shimano Tourney brake with Mathauser shoes
Araya 1st Gen. 7b rims with Shimano MX quick change hubs (even extra sprockets!)
Cebe slimline stem.
Tange quick adjust headset
Carlisle Agressor MX front tire. 20x2.125 with 1.75 tube. 20x1.75 rear tire.
Generic seat - but production stamped May 1978
I bought this bike early in the GJS A-Frame production (July 1978 I believe), it didn't have a serial number on it, or, was shipped without one. This bike retains 100% of the parts it was built to race with in 1978. The only updates have been new brake shoes, and a new brake lever, and new Oury grips, and NOS parts were used. Bike was raced in 1979 Jag BMX World Championships.

Re: 1978 GJS

Wow I didnt know GJS went back to 1977. I raced Jeff Utterback at my first race ever in 1978 and he was on SE I f I remember right.
I thought GJS started in 79. That bike is sick though, glad you saved it all these years.

Re: 1978 GJS

I actually thought 1978 at first, but based on other pictures that were posted, I had to re-think. http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/gjs/6500 for instance says 1977, and http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/gjs/3619 says 1978. Since I don't have the small tube model, which I know came at least a year later, I made a leap. But, I'm quite comfortable that it could be, and probably is 1978, based on my memory, plus, what you've noted. Positive it isn't 1979.

Thanks!

Re: 1978 GJS

Are Gusset Bars The Same Size Or Two Different Sizes?
Also Where Is the Serial # Stamped?
i believe The First Frame To the Public Was Not Available Til 1979, Unless You Got A Proto Type Which Is Mega Rare
This Looks To Me Like A Type Two A Frame.
