Thanks Costas. And I just scored an embroidered GT Speed Series seat today. At long last.

Sounds great,
I was just chatting with duke the other day about seats. Def one of the hardest Tour parts to find, especially in good condition. The speed series seats look great!

There's a seat in the house! Needs a little TLC, but the price was right.

Re: 2000 GT Tour Bestwick X-Games Tribute Bike

Funny you should ask. I just came back from my folks place where I picked up more parts for the Tour. I plan to post photographs this week. I'm nervous about the powder coating and annodizing. I'm having it done professionally, but I'll need to preserve decals.

Christmas brought some more goodies!

GT Driveshaft cranks with bubble decals. I missed the rest of the spindle hardware in this shot.

Those cranks are sweet! ! !  So are those levers! Where did you find them? I need a set or two... wink
Must be close to having all the parts.

I never noticed ultrahive did a set of decals! Great info.
Hopefully towards the end of January I'll start a build thread of my own.

Ultrahives fork leg decals are both for the right fork, but you can find the fork decals on ebay

Good eye on those fork decals. Luckily I have 2 more sets that I got off eBay that have each side.

Re: 2000 GT Tour Bestwick X-Games Tribute Bike

So now that I'm thinking about decals, I'm at a bit of a crossroads. I hadn't thought of it before, but to install these "Jamie Bestwick" decals like these:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a340/Hippiesmurf69/bestwickdecal2_zpse173c0ed.jpg

I'd have to remove the "Tour" decals and the "Warning" decal by the head tube. I'd rather not remove the stock decals since I haven't seen those particular decals re-printed. So do I keep the stock decals intact like this picture?
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a340/Hippiesmurf69/Screenshot_2014-05-28-17-40-24_1_zps611c8f5e.jpg

Or do I do the JB stickers like in this pic?
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a340/Hippiesmurf69/Screenshot_2014-05-29-00-43-51_1_zps729abb53.jpg

Keep in mind that I am adding the Woodward stickers on the chainstays. I'm thinking that since I may want to leave the OG decals on it, I could mount the JB stickers on magnet sheets, hence, making them removable.

Oh, the silly problems of building bikes.

Re: 2000 GT Tour Bestwick X-Games Tribute Bike

I'm a fan of leaving those og decals especially because they are not reproduced by anyone yet. Your idea of the magnet is interesting....Would the JB decal cover the tour decal completely?

I can see you are going to great effort to get the build right... but what version are you building to? The show mounted pic may not be 100% correct to what Jamie was riding. Can you see if the decals replaced during the rebuild he had on it in the mag?

Re: 2000 GT Tour Bestwick X-Games Tribute Bike

I'm definitely conflicted. I will most likely leave the OG decals on it.

Those JB stickers are one of the most unique features of the BMX Plus rebuild. They were on the bike prior to the restoration, but I've never seen em on JB's bike in any "action" shots yet. I figured the OG ones peeled off his bike and he put the JB stickers over then gum spots/torn decals to make it look better. There are a couple incarnations of his red Tour. I'm sure he changed various parts as he broke them, or upgraded.

Leave the Tour stickers on, remove the Warning sticker. That's how he's got it in the action pic

Re: 2000 GT Tour Bestwick X-Games Tribute Bike

I think I need to adjust each part of my plans for this build to include the phrase "within reason". Every time I delve into research about a certain detail about the bike, I get pretty anal. For instance, the brake cable guide on the down tube of his Tour is different than the production frame (along with his frame not having grind tabs on the dropouts). Also, since there are many variations in parts, part colors, decals, etc., and very few hi-res photos of each event that JB was photographed at, I'll just have to settle for the fact that I probably won't get this thing 100% correct. I'll just shoot for the best of all worlds.

His bike actually differed in decals (along with peg configuration and part colors) in his gold medal win in the 2000 X-Games and his gold medal win in the 1999 Gravity Games. He had the Woodward decals on the dropouts in Gravity Games, but not the X-Games. He also rode with "Vans: Off The Wall" decals on the sprocket end of his down tube. By the time Mark Gray restored his Tour, the Vans stickers were gone and the JB decals were present in place of the "...Tour..." stickers. But nowhere have I found a photo of him riding with the JB decals on the bike. There's also what appears to be a small sticker on the sprocket of the French flag in the pre-restoration photos. Weird.

French flag?

See? Anal. And that's just the decals.

ABCarlson -- got a link to where the original bike was restored? Did you say it was a BMXPlus! article?

Great work btw -- there is no such thing as 'anal' when it comes to a part-for-part resto. Only what time and pocketbook will allow.

Here's the original thread started by Mark Gray himself. http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=203110 The thread was never updated after the restoration was finished, but Wokii sent me the conclusion to the restoration in the Dropbox link above from the July 2010 issue of BMX Plus.

Re: 2000 GT Tour Bestwick X-Games Tribute Bike

That decal sheet reminds me of a comment ultrahive used to have about the Tour set on his old site. He said that the set was made for a famous restoration, one that he was never acknowledged one. Now check out those fork decals. Guess we just found out which famous resto he was on about.

Of course, this makes your decal dilema worse AB. You now have to worry about which fork decals to use, the correct ones, or Ultrahive's double right leg ones. lol
