1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team Model

It's flouro Orange, bro

Most parts NOS / mint, some restored.
Frame/fork: GT PFTTM, ser 387xxxx, FS stamped.
bars/pole: '87 GT.
'87 GT power series cranks, GT power disc, chain-ring, chain-ring bolts, SR SP-474 pedals.
'88 GT seat, '87 GT seat clamp, SR GT mallet stem, GT epoch headset, AME round grips.
DC tech 77 levers with lock, 1st gen Odyssey Gyro, DC AD990 rear/Nippon front brakes.
GT frame and fork standers, GT tube rides.
NOS GT Superlace wheel set, built in '87, OEM Suntour freewheel, TEC chain, NOS GT-1 skinwall tyres/tires.
Was going to pull down the wheels and re-do black. Mocked up the bike with some black wheels/tyres, then tried on the super-laces on as you see them now. I prefer them white. It gives the bike a crisper look.
The pics do not do this bike justice.
It looks perfect, like a piece of candy.

A super job - great stuff, Dave!
I agree that the white makes the GT pop -
There's enough white there to tie it all together smile

Thanks Baz. A simple thing such as hub and rim colour makes a big change on the overall look of the bike. The decals and other small white accents tie it in, exactly. Cheers.

Great restore per Chip.
Awesome build. One of my fav GT colors too.

The superlaces..... meh. Guess I am partial to black on this color. tongue

I understand your desire to do something a tad bit different.
But as long as you are happy...that is what matters in my book. smile

I agree with tacoman on the black with that particular color, but that's ur ride not mine. Don't get me wrong, that doesn't take away the fact that its a sweet frickin bike---big_smile

Re: 1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team Model

I would have probably done the wheels black if they need to be restored, but these wheels came from an old Chicago bike shop NOS. had only 2 small marks in rear rim, NOS freewheel and spokes are almost perfect. Original built in '87, did not have to heart to tear them down, and I think white wheels make a nice contrast. the other white accents on the bike help also..
Have 185mm SS spokes ready to go, also automotive grade acrylic paint, should I decide to colour swap. It's about 4-5 hours of my time from start to finish, paint drying time aside!

In that case...
Wheels are OG white...keep em that way,
If you decide to go black in the future.....trade em out with a trustworthy member.
Or....if you see a set of "show like" 1st gen superlaces/black.....buy em and sell the white.

Dont refinish the wheels mayn!!! smile

I love the white. I think it's a fresher look and goes better with the day glow orange.
Amazing job thought. It's an incredible looking ride.

Re: 1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team Model

i would usually agree the black wheels would have looked better but in this case..i think the white with the decals really balances it out and looks great. and they are og. dont change a thing!
