Frustration... When projects go bad due to the details you failed to pay attention to. Wife's 1930s DP Harris that I had built initially as a resto, rarely ridden so decided to turn into a fun Klunker project for our Moab trip. I forgot the rear dropouts are 100mm, have to cold set to 127mm in an attempt to fit a Nexus Internal 8 hub. Next was to be 1-1/8 Marzocchi Bombers, again failed to realize the steer tube is sleeved at the bottom to 1", the top is a solid piece that is a conical taper that is in the mid section and inch also...ouch and damn it. Forces me to go to my 1' Answer Manitou forks and a 100mm narrow hub, grrrrr. This screws with my brake system for the forks totally. Lastly, the color is way off as it was baked 4x. Soooo, I ordered House of Colors Kandy paint, metal flake and clear before I found this all out. I have a pretty heavy inventory of parts so I fitted a Nexus 3 spd and a simple 100mm rim brake wheel up front. Not pleased with the narrowness, but at least my American to English BB fit well as did the White Ind Eno Cranks and 34t ring with bash guard. Most everything had gone sideways, so maybe I scrap the frame and go with a Ladies Panther frame or gut it out on this frame, clamp it up and cold set the stays, repaint it and figure out the brake mess up front and find a hub and lace a Mavic. It's definitely light, but damn.. ..

I think this qualifies?
1980ish worksman newsboy.
Took off fenders, chain guard and basket(11lbs).
Swapped seat, bars and stem, also added the drum brake front setup from a worksman trike I picked up on the same trip.
Probably the coolest part is it's internal 7spd.http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-image … 6ff3e7.jpg

Even though I noticed and commented on your Workman on the previous page, after looking at it a second time I didn't realize the first time around how similar it is to the early 80's U-HAUL cruiser I'm resurrecting (era, sprocket, color, multi speed internal hub, etc)...

I hate when that happens, always best to build it up before you put a finish on it so you can get everything working right, Klunking ain't easy! smile

Re: anyone build a 26" Klunker? show me

Normally I mock everything up, I made the terrible assumption it was not much different than my post war frames. Given this frame was a donor from a cruiser I built for my wife from scratch without issue she rode for years. It's getting pushed to it's limits so let's see what it can take and what new issues arise in the name of R&D. Bought a '51 cruiser today to be a donor in case...

Very cool.
I really do love the idea of these klunkers, built to bomb!
Mines definetly got style with the drum brake and internal gear setup.
I'm struggling a bit with whether I should keep it and cruise occasionally or let it go and build
something more Bmx, lighter and livelier.

Re: anyone build a 26" Klunker? show me

Cold setting to 130mm. The metal is taking it nicely. Rear  remained centered, will just need to adjust the dropouts afterwards. Will see about chain line once I set the new rear hub in which is a Nexus 8 speed and Eno 165 cranks.

Going to let it sit this way for a week. Initially it kept half of what I put into it, will stretch a little more and see where we sit and then move on

39/40 Westfield frame.  Still tinkering around with the set up, but need to get it out in the sun soon.

One of my Laguna's, tires are like concrete tho, they are survivors like from 1981, but looks way cool, getting a set of riders wheel set so when I do go out on a cruise! big_smilehttp://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/30593/img_88555a58a15348.jpg
